2.4 grille badge removal

Does anyone know how the "2.4" badge is fastened to the metal engine grille on the earlier cars? I want to remove mine, but can't see any screws going into it.

Can you get to the back of it?If you can, then look for some speed nuts!If not then it is probably on with double back tape,it is possibly on with both,I would heat it up real hot with a heat gun or hair dryer and gently try to pry it off with a putty knife.

Jack...after looking at mine, have to admit...darned if I know. Heck, consider leaving it there, and going back to the 911T emblem as well? A real Q ship move I'd be very careful about prying...those anodized aluminum bars are tender, and I doubt that it's just a glue or sticky...i suspect some welding may have been used. Maybe somebody who knows for sure will post..

If memory serves me, two pins project out of the back of the badge at each end. The pins mate with small holes in the engine grill. So, the badge is a press-fit. The only way to get it off is to gently pry it off. The likelihood is that since its been on there for 30 years or so, you will break the pins. That's just what happened to me about 10 years ago when I got the bright idea to remove the badge and repaint the grill. I'd suggest leaving it alone.

Four small pins. It's gone, now, but then, so is the 2.4 liter engine.

After seeing Adam Chaplin's new "911" badging, I decided to go with that. I think it's a nice and simple approach. There's no boast to it, just the basic name of the model. And besides, now I've addded a 996 component to the car, which means (I think) that I've got every model included in my car except the 993.

Here's a quick shot of the ducktail with the new badge. Purists feel free to fire at will.

Porsche Crest Nice tail!

I am going to put a ducktail on my '69 T, change the wheels to those from a 993, blackout all the chrome, and after seeing your badge, maybe go with that too. Then, somewhere down the road, put a 3.2 or 3.6 motor in it as well.
Did you buy and rebuild that engine, or pump up a smaller one?
Very nice job, let's see more!

Thanks. Rick, it's a stock 3.6 from a 1993 C2. Lots more pictures here.

Tom? HOOT! I'll agree with that! But check out Jack's license plate frame in the shot. I dig it. But I wonder if I'm missing a hidden meaning? Oh, Jack? The slanted 911 emblem? YES! Great Q ship stuff. Let 'em wonder...

Hey, Jack- where did you find the valance panel on your rear bumper area? I love that piece, it is so much cleaner than the production part. I've only seen it one other time, would you please post a link to it's source?

Thanks-

The curved fiberglass piece in place of the rear license panel is aftermarket, but I think the outfit that made it is no longer in existence. I saw one come up on ebay, and sell for something like two or three hundred bucks, and then I placed a WTB ad on Pelican. I got mine that way for a reasonable price. I've heard they were popular in the seventies, and that they appear every so often on the swap meet circuit. But I've never seen them for sale commercially.

Since this thread has meandered a bit to deck badging, here's one that should ruffle some "purist" feathers :

Kurt ... a little meandering never hurts a 'good' thread!

Ya know what your pic looks like when it first appears on screen without scrolling over?

911F

And, that seems quite appropriate, too!

Jack ... I believe that center 'filler' panel was made by Mitcom ... 20 - 25 years ago. Don't know if they are still around. They were somewhere in the LA area, Gardena, maybe???

with a license plate like that, aren't you required by law to only play Grateful Dead albums in the car? Is that a live version of "Dark Star" I hear wafting through the ether? Although I seem to recall that the California Assembly expanded the acceptable swirly music clause to include Pink Floyd, Cream, and perhaps the Vanilla Fudge...

I had my rear decklid grille powdercoated the other day, and discovered, to my surprise, that my 2.7 badge was glued on!

The fastening pins had obviously snapped off many moons ago.
