Electric windows, air conditioning and defrosters were options starting in 1967, mostly due to the preferences of the American market. As for the price, the '72-73 911S is the most sought-after of the early cars, even more than the Carrera RS (since more people can afford them). For an original running S with what appear to be most of the factory options, he's not too far out of line.

Rare? My 73T has electric windows. I'd say it's actually a drawback on an S, since it adds weight.

Ooops didn't notice it was an 'S' - still, I haven't seen another 73 911 with electric anything.

How about electric door locks - when did those start?

Electric locks started w/ Carrera 3.2; possibly '85. They were definitely standard equipment in '86. Many late 60's/early 70's 911's came very heavily optioned, and they had an option list as long as your arm. Don't know where you got the idea that power windows were rare/ not available, they were common.

If it is as advertised and mechanicals are good then in my opinion the price is not "extreme". I'd check out how bad the "some rust" is.

Early car question, which I'm reminded of after seeing that picture: I think the all-rubber over-riders look awful; can they be removed or swapped for the chrome ones with rubber inserts? Are there legal issues to doing so?

epbrown: the rubber bumpers can be easily removed and yes the chromes fit in their place (at least in the back). i did this on mine but put in an 's" spoiler upfront (fiberglass = lighter & less worry) and opted not to put any bumpers over the spoiler to achieve a cleaner look. only drawback is people get really confused as to what year it is.

i agree, which is another reason i prefer the 72 over the 73 chassis and trim, at least the US model. the 73 euro did not have the front overriders and i believe had the same rear bumpers as a the 72. no issues, maybe eybrows raised from the ultra purists which should not stop you by any means!
