please dont get up
I just resused a 911 74 thats been sittin for 12 ys...after plugs n new gas lines n new points...etc...
Ive started it up and oil comming out of the exaust ,,,,,good time to panick? ran the car for half hour |
Your oil is probably overfilled. Check it when it's at operating temp, on level ground. It's good to keep the level right between the min and max on the dipstick.

+1 over fill
|
Thanx for your help.... Redstroseknic....I wasnt sure if it ment the engine was blown
|
i drained then refueled this 911 ..with good oil ..how could there be too much oil
thanx |
When they sit for years, a lot of the oil in the reservoir seeps into the engine and cylinders and eventually finds its way into the exhaust. When I first fired up my 911T engine after it had been sitting for 5 years it took 30 minutes of running to get it to quit smoking and spewing oil out the exhaust. Not a pretty sight. The important thing at this point is to heed the advice of the others about making sure you check the oil level with engine warm and running on level ground. You can't do much about all the oil that has already seeped into the exhaust except letting it burn off.

Did you fill it until you could see the oil on the dipstick? If you did then it is over filled. The dipstick only shows the correct level if the engine is idling, parked level and the temperature is up to the first line on the gauge. If you did all that then it is something else. |
did you drain both the oil tank and the engine case?
|
Im on it
Thanx for all your help ...draining oil today and putting fresh in again..last nite I lost my dipstick into the filler...(ya I feel like a dipstick)...
...can somebody give me a measurement ..of how many inches..to the good zone on a dipstick..so I can use a coat hanger....(no porsche dealer here need to order one from pelican)...maybe Two.. |

Dip Stick..Me
Hi, First time I checked the oil in mine, I did the same thing but was able to gently fish it out with a bent piece of wire. Good Luck ! +1 on the overfill !
|
If wire and hanger does not work you may consider using a magnet fish tool if that doesn't work you may need to remove the Oil Level Sending Unit (OLSU) and fish it out there. Check under my name I have a tutorial on the OLSU.
As far as level, when hot (194 degrees minimum) and idling on level ground, the oil level should be in between the two marks. |
thanx all
I dont believe the dipstick is in fact magnetic ....I could be wrong...check yours...seeing the plug is magnetic...just doing the math....It just would not make sense...and would not be safe...with gas......chem..101

yes
Today i put 20/50 oil in the car ...its not blowing..as much oil..

the dipstick is made of metal thus a magnet will stick to it and assist in pulling it out

magnets don't adhere to all metals, or even to all steels |
