MFI cams in a 3.0
Just finding out what the PO or shop did. Have a 78 3.0 that is getting a top and and re-seal, when I took it apart I found it had 72 cam towers and 911T MFI cams with the drive cam being machined down. As this was my first P-car I had nothing to compare it to, but friends that did drive it say it seemed faster than a stock 3.0
Thoughts on this set-up? should I put it back this way, or get the correct 4 bearing towers and stock 3.0 or 964 cams? This is now my spare engine since I did a 3.6 swap, so I'm in no rush to put it back together, just more curious about the setup. cam numbers are 911.105.133.0R 911.105.134.0R and a "3" stamped in the end.

My guess is that the T cams will have a bit less lift, if so then the T cam is certainly a milder cam than an SC

A decent cam upgrade for the 3.0 is the 964 or 20/21 if still using CIS. Won't pass CA smog though.

Do the lobes show any signs of rework that might have been performed by WebCam, Elgin or John Doughterty? I had mine done by WebCam for the first rebuild, then John freshened them for the second. Bill K

Sounds like MotorMisery..if the cams were reground..they should have been marked by the grinder with some identification.
