TEC vs MegaSquirt Engine management vs....

I'm looking in to a conversion from Webers to EFI using PMO throttle bodies. Doing just a bit of research, I found the Bitz kit which uses MegaSquirt for Engine management and the Clewett kit which uses TEC engine management. What's the principal difference between the two?

Also, will the bolt patterns and the port sizes of the existing weber manifolds work with the PMO throttle bodies?

You do not want the Bitz Kit ECU if you arent using his kit. It was outdated 4 years ago as far as ECU's go.

DIYAutoTune.com Megasquirt Kits / Assembled Engine Management Systems, Wideband o2 Sensor Systems and tuning products

Are a few sites that will educate you. The last will sell you up to date DIY hardware. Its where I bought all my ECU related hardware and they are great.

They work the same way.
One is geared towards DIY. One is geared towards pros.

The DIY will save you serious $$ but it will be made up in your time... It is not for the faint of heart.
I was out tuning again this weekend.

Good luck..

MS3/X and TEC3 look pretty similar but I have no experience with the TEC. TEC looks to be a bit more of a "finished" product, MS3 is still undergoing software development and may require some hardware modifications depending on your individual needs.

+1 on Brads response.

I have the BITZ kit also. While done well it technically isn't a "pro" kit like the TEC product is. Tony Bitz did a very good job of getting the parts together for you in his kit but it is outdated (uses MS-1 ECU). It would work perfectly fine but if you don't want to tinker and don't mind spending an a$$-load more, get the TEC3 engine management option. It does fuel and spark control quite well.

BTW: you can upgrade to the MS-2 for $90. It's just a chip (daughter-card) that drops onto the MS-1 motherboard. If you want the MS-3, it's really a different ECU box and everything so you'd have to get the ECU and the MS-3 harness.

MS-2 and 3 will do ignition too, but again... could be a little challenging. It doesn't always go smoothly.

I'm about to pull the trigger on an XDi ignition.
