This sub doesn't draw a lot of power (it's only a max of 150 watts), plus I got a higher grade rca wire with better shielding built into it.

now the amp in the trunk that powers the 4 speakers requires more power and I have kept those separate.

I'm in the process of building a sub box for my smugglers box which will hold an 8" Alpine sub woofer. I will be finished this weekend and will have some photos then.

I think the smugglers box is a great, stealthy, place for a sub but it's a bi&^% for measuring and re-measuring. I ended up making a mock box out of foam because I wanted to be sure the final product will fit thru the lid and be as large as the smugglers box can handle. The speaker will be pointed into the cabin thru the original A/C hole and the trunk will remain all stock. My amplifier is under the passenger seat.

I second the Car Audio Innovations....just did one in mine and it sure was easy. Hybrid L8's and DD amp, and am very satisfied.

that set up is pretty sweet, but I was leery about putting a sub in the trunk because of how flimsy and light the hood is. All I could picture was the sound of it rattling as I drive down the road. I also didn't want anything that big. I am more of a complete sound kind of guy and didn't want bass to drown out my jazz.

Can you put the seats all the way back? I was told I could not, and sure enough that was the case when it arrived. I sent it back.

Being a hang-around in the car stereo community when the craze hit Norway in the early 90's, dreaming of both a 911 and a respectable boomin' system, I could not resist to equip my 911 with some woofers and an amp.

PO had installed a very good 2-way front system, with Focal speakers. Last year I put in an Alpine head unit, as I always lusted for back inthe days. Nothing fancy at all, but it has USB in the front. The sound was OK, but cruising at 70 on the highway you notice that you could benefit from some more power. So this winter I laid plans...

I ordered a small-ish 4 channel JBL amp that could be bridged, to run the front system and a sub or two.

Beatiful design. Before fitting it in the car, it was sitting on the dining room table and my fiancee was sad when I removed it...!

Well, I wanted this system to be easily removable and not very intrusive. Also, I wanted to be able to remove the sub on trackdays or when I need the trunk space. The back seats are frequently used, so I had to fab something to put in the trunk.

The amp had to reside under the passenger seat, since I wanted sound with the sub removed, so I mounted it on a wooden plate, ran good quality cables to battery,ground and front system.

Now to the sub. My original plan was for a single 10 inch woofer, so I measured the trunk and used a woofer box calculator I found at the Rockford Fosgate site.

For simplicity I designed a closed box, needing smaller space and getting less booming sound than a ported box, although with less punch. The 27 liters I needed was quite small, and I wanted to use the full with to the left of the brake master cylinder, so I made a compartment with a lid next to the woofer area to put small stuff in - tools etc.

Ok, the RF Punch woofer I ordered was not in stock, and as I waited I got new plans... Two woofers are cooler than one, right? My box design had the woofer firing up, not ideal, but an 8-inch should fit vertically.... Being a lazy bastard I decided to redesign the box I had, and the specs on the Polk Audio woofers showed that 27 Liters was right for a ported box, but the port needed to be quite long.... How to fix this...?

If the woofer was to be used in a closed box it needed about 20 liters, and my 'tool box' was a little bigger than that. But hey! If I run the port from the left woofer compartment through the right compartment I reduce the volume a little, and get the correct length for the port tube.

So now I have one ported woofer for the booming bass, and a closed woofer for the dry, defined bass. In theory....

The 8-inchers was a tad big, so I had to add a top plate to get the woofer in place. But then the box became too tall...! Grrrr... OK, then I made the top 'profiled' and to replace the grey carpet I had to rip off during the redesign I used some from the trunk carped the PO hadn't cut to size. Two toned it is...

Tim, I had the folks at Custom Car Stereo do an audio upgrade on my 993 late last year. They did an awesome job on the project, including the fabrication and installation of the sub.
