Tom: right on!!!
Of course not only do the 'stang guys get an easy ride but also a variety of GM's (Replacement Body Shells -A Rust Free Beginning To A Brand New Old Car) and the MGB/MGB-GT (TRF MGB and MGB-GT Parts - Body Sheet Metal--complete Body Shells (The Roadster Factory MGB Glovebox Companion page 119)). I am sure ther are others but no 911's. :( |
You used to be able to order a "Body in white" direct from Porsche.
Part number E 911 500 921 27 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/521932-body-white-nla.html |

These guys do Mustangs, Camaros, and now Challenger bodies
1970 Dodge Challenger Replacement Body Shell I may build some thing like a Pro touring car in the future. Probably a second gen Camaro as I had 2 of them when I was in high school. |
After a bit of searching.
CARRERA/ COUPE BODY ... G91150092131 Price: $21,174.04 |

^^^ Expensive but how much could you spend restoring a rusty body?
|
That's almost the same price as a new targa top from the factory. I think the body shell is a better buy!
|
Only 6 grand more than the Mustang. That's not too bad.
|
And where would one find/order/purchase this part?
Is it a "recover/refinish" from an old "core"? Or is it a spank'n new built from specs? Quote:

Why, from Pelican, of course. Mind you, it's probably not a stock item... Pelican Parts - Product Information: OEM-91150092131 |

I remember Grady Clay posting about how he wished Porsche supplied new bodies. I highly doubt that you can actually order one of these and get one.

Says it ships in four business days - the shipping might be a tad high...
|
I know they do Charger bodies too. How do you vin a car built from this and various parts?

Interesting thread. Not really a surprise about complete 911 bumper bodies being available -- for a price -- from Porsche. Especially since they do complete remanufacturing -- for a price. All they have to do is run X number of them off every few years, all galvanized and primed, and stack them up in a warehouse until they're ordered. The 959 body is a little surprising, but then why wouldn't there be a handful of spare bodies still kicking around -- made when it was new?
|
The catalog is wrong, as the parts they are advertising is a G911 body -- all the body parts advertised are 911 G-series parts -- not the "current model year". Those would start with a 997 not a 911.
