Renovating calipers, do I need to change the lines too?
 

I'm currently in the process of renovating my front calipers and got the tip that the flexible brake lines can sometimes deteriorate and need replacing. But once the wheels and rotors where off (the rotors are either machined or replaced) and I could take a good look at the lines it seemed as they had at some point been replaced with braided ones (?). I have no history on the car so no idea how old they are. Should I get some new ones or is it likely that these are ok?

The one in your pic looks yucky and rusty... I'd replace them. they are cheap, so while you're at it, etc... but be careful and use flare end wrenches, or you'll be busting out the vise grips..:)

agree 100%. when they get that nasty and rusty looking, they are overdue for replacement.

definitely replace them. all four of them.

While you're down there, that's a awful loose and sloppy looking worn out sway bar bushing too.......

Absolutely replace those brake hoses.

First, the SS aftermarket hoses are (in my experience) far less quality and durability than OE or OEM Ate hoses.
You will find my technical explanations here on Pelican along with many other’s.
There is little controversy about this issue.
Your first order of business should be to re-install OE or OEM rubber hoses.

These hoses should be replaced every few years.
How often is dependent on climate, use and how you value your life.
I replace mine bi-annually for my street cars (annually for the race car & hot rod).

These are not expensive parts and should be part of your regular maintenance program.

+1, replace, hell you are in there anyways. Rust = Bad

Go ahead and start shooting the PB Blaster/Kroil whatever now. Mine came loose fine this past weekend but didn't look as bad as yours. I stayed with OEM rubber hose, I figure they were good enough for the first 24 years, why should I second guess this detail. Good luck.
