bought it from JR.com, also available from Amazon and other retailers....best buy has other parrot products, I expect they will get the asteroid in soon, but not yet.
the interface is pretty slick, 3G speeds are pretty slow around my house, so it takes a while for maps to load, but buffering music off the web is quick, the click wheel is easy and intuitive, overall I give it high marks. Lewis

Right on. Looks great. Does it have GPS built in or do you have to connect to your phone? Can you download and save maps? I travel to the states from time to time but using data wwhile roaming can be expensive.

it needs a data connection to download maps
install was easy, it has european ISO plugs, so if you have a modern German car, it will just plug in, for our cars, not so much, connect power and ground and the speaker wires....not long or difficult, especially if taking out a modern stereo, with constant and switched power. one funny thing, this radio draws most of its power (when on) thru the constant 12v supply, so you might want to upgrade that wire, I ended running right from the fuse block on my '73, as anything under the dash seemed to dainty to me...in fact, when hooked to a wire under the dash, the built-in amps were clipping at anything above 50% volume....

I really like the look of the Parrot radio. It would be the perfect device if it had a video input for a backup camera. How is the sound quality once you have it hooked up with the appropriate power wiring?

I'm sure you know that's a Singer but the radio itself is a satellite radio I believe.
It does look very cool!

the only current single din kenwood that will stream audio via bt is the excelon 995. the previous two year's models, 993 and 994 respectively, will do it as well. you can find this priced lower online, but if you are looking for something that does not look like a modern radio this may be your ticket. when not in use it's a flat black screen, similar to a radio delete panel. for the slight added cost over the parrot model this is a no-brainer. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDAVX77/JVC-KD-AVX77.html?tp=5684&nvpair=FFBrand|JVC+Mobile

If your budget allows, and you are into audiophile quality, look no further than Nakamichi. Perhaps the CD 700II model? Not flashy at all and a long time reference for sound and quality.

McIntosh
I have a McIntosh MX401:
![]() It's not very vintage looking but sortof "period correct" for the early 90's and doesn't look bad in my 87. I LOVE, however, the MX406: ![]() They must be somewhat obscure, never hear mention of wither unit 'round these parts.... which makes me like them even more! |
