Door cap question

The passenger side door cap on my '80 has a recessed screw with plastic cover:

On the driver's side the screw is not recessed and there's no cover, but it looks factory:

I ordered these, which according to the parts diagram are plugs for the upper door cap retaining screws but they don't appear to fit either side:

So why would I have two different styles of door cap? I'm pretty sure they're both original.
Assuming the driver's side is factory are caps available?

your driver's side is not factory. Both doors are supposed to be just like the passenger side, with a recessed screw and a plastic cap. I'm not sure how your driver's door got that way but it didn't leave the assembly line like that.

Thanks. I can't see a reason for changing it, the attachment tab isn't stripped (requiring a larger screw.) And the bezel (on the door cap) suggests it wasn't a hack job. Very strange.

I just checked PET, and the part number for the plug that you need is 999 703 077 40.

Here it is: Pelican Parts - Product Information: 999-703-077-40-OEM
