911 main grounds?

After 25 years, I would like to remove and clean all the grounds on the car.
I am beginning to suspect that some of the electrical issues may be simply fixed by cleaning the grounds.

So, can I get suggestions on where the grounds are, so. I don't miss any?

Rich

Battery ground strap and transmission ground strap are two main ones I know of.. there are small ones to the body also, think there is one by the CDI box on SC's. A wiring diagram should show all of them, no?

^ plus -> You want to look at the Bentley repair manual as it shows a very good diagram of the "ground zones" and locations of the grounds.

For instance on my SC there is a ground zone (cluster of ground wires) located near the front hood hinge on the drivers side inside front trunk near the gauge area.

There are several of these ground clusters located in our cars, and these clusters are so important as they feed and complete so many key systems in the 911...

Good Luck!

There are over a dozen ground points on an 84. There's a page in the wiring diagrams that shows the locations of all of them. I think the wiring diagrams are accessible online right here on Pelican.

I looked at those and they seem to be for the 70's cars, up through the SC...but I did not see anything for the Carerra...and motronic.

For that system, I know of the main ground on the intake manifold, I guess I will just start tracing wires...
Figured someone here would know of them all...and just give me a list.
I know all the 914 ones by heart...btdt many times.

Rich,

There's a huge cluster of grounds attached to intake port #1 of your motor....an excellent place to start.
