Thermostat o-ring SC

My internal oil thermostat on my 83 SC needs a new O-ring. To my surprise I pulled the thermostat only to find a squared of BLACK O ring.

The replacement send to me was a GREEN-ish rounded O ring.

Is this normal? So if you look at the picture I would replace the black O ring with a rounded GREEN O-ring.

Any reason why this was changed? The Green O ring carries the Porsche OEM sticker

Or am I missing something?

Michel

Yes. I believe there are different colors from different manufacturers.

Thermostat is number 4 back in the engine compartment. You can remove it with engine in car if you are skin and bones. Be carfull not to drop anyting in the hole.

I just replaced mine a few weeks ago after i had the engine out.
The OEM one was black plastic and the new one i puchased from the dealer was a green rubber "O" ring !

The parts guy told me that the original black plastic sealing rings had been superceded twice ...

Cheers !

Online..PP has two "O" rings listed..one red,,the other green.

I fitted the red thermostat "O" ring. It went in the case with near no resistance..and it "weeped" oil.

Removed the thermostat.

Installed a green "O" ring..it had some resistance when installing and is dry..no leaks.

Can't speak concerning the black"O" ring. My advise..use the green "O" ring.

I havent seen a black one that didnt fall apart and crack when being removed. I had a green one leaking and reinstalled it with a red one.
