Headlight options, French or ROW?
I saw a pair of these on a car at the R Gruppe meeting in Cambria last year. Apparently the French like them.
Since I was avoiding work anyway, I tried putting one on. Opinions?

Jack, I think this is one of those "love 'em or hate 'em" things. Me? I hate 'em. NO more function, even in fog. Actually, even less function. But, a nice counter to all the rice guys and those blue lights. So, if you like 'em? Goferit...hey, maybe run one of each, like in your pic????

There's a reason that the rest of the world has almost uniformly ignored Gallic automotive oddities....(although "Gallic" and "automotive oddities" may be redundant)
Buy a clapped out Deux Chevaux and knock yourself out, but leave the 911 alone. Tim |

I was a button-click away from ordering a set of Frenchies a few months ago. I'm afraid I'm going to need to vote nay. I say H4's (or H1) and Italian front turn signal lenses (see thread above). -- Curt

Actually, after seeing them on orange, black, and blue cars ... I'm beginning to like them! And, it is not as if anybody has never seen yellow driving and fog lights! There IS a perfectly valid reason foe their being a good idea ... and that is the same reason that you saw yellow Pickett slide rules in the '50s amd 60s ... yellow-green is the peak sensitivity in the color spectrum for the human eye!

Hmmm.
I've seen certain cars on which I like the amber lens look; however, I hate to say it Jack, but I don't think your car is one of them. Something like a white 911ST, perhaps. BB, uh-uh. The striking color difference really detracts from the 'stealth' look of the car IMHO and draws one's eye to the headlights instead of the car.

I'm a bright white Hella fan myself. I don't care for the yellow at all.
I'm curious though...are there any statistics that show how the yellow affects visibility? If it does at all. I live in the middle of nowhere, and it's DARK out here. I like lots of light on those winding side roads. |

Jack, not that I want you to give away all of your Photoshop secrets but how did you do the yellow lights. My BB996 didn't come out as good and I'd like to improve it.

It can/may be photon correct. It can/may be artistically correct. Attracting a bears attention is enviromentally not correct, IMO. That machine should only attract the attention of those who know what they are looking at, and that's 911 art, IMO...Ron

Jack, I don't think the yellow lenses suit black (or other dark colour) cars - IMO they look great on white/silver/orange etc early 911s. I had been toying with the idea of going down that route with my (silver) 911E but I think they're actually illegal here in the UK (don't know what the situation is in the US) & it would be a lot of trouble to swap them over just for the occasional early 911 get-togethers.
However, there's a simple solution - rather like your Photoshop exercise - simply paint the lenses using yellow glass paint. This is what we used to have to do when taking our cars over to France (either that or attaching yellow plastic lenses over the headlamps). I don't think that Auto Accessory shops still keep that yellow glass paint but if you go to any decent craft/hobby shop you should be able to get the appropriate yellow spirit-based glass paint (used for getting the stained glass window effect). When you want to convert back to 'white' lenses clean the yellow film off with the relevant solvent - white spirit appropriately !! Jack.....RSR body conversions, Porsche stripes, yellow lenses....What's next, big fuzzy dice for the rear view mirror? Admit it, Jack. What you need, indeed, what you crave, is a new 911 project. You got the itch;we can all see it. Go ahead, break down and find a new shell to build up. We'll all be rooting for you.
