Just got my Bendpak MD6-XP need help with ramps

Hi all,

Finally got my Bendpak MD-6XP lift home. I need to make some sort of ramps to raise car enough to clear the lift pads.

Could someone direct me a link that has dimensions for the wood pieces? I know it will be 2 X 12's about 12' long. But would like actual dimensions for long pieces and the ramps I'll need to make so I can drive car up on the 2 X 12's.

I've seen some neat looking set ups in the past but can't seem to find them now.

Thanks,

David

One of the guys that lives near me has this lift.
His solution was to remove the lift pads from the arms and his SC would drive right over the lift.
I do remember he had some type of plastic tile/flooring down so maybe that increased his clearance.

You know...that would work. I planned on using hockey pucks between the lift pads and the jack points on the car. Suppose I could just put the hockey pads directly on the lift arms and then raise the lift.

Thanks,

David

i used a set of old steel ramps i had as none of my cars can drive up them due to the steep incline. i left a few inches of the "top" on there which serves as a backstop so the car won't move (the garage floor slants slightly forward).

Base: Two 6' long 2" X 12"

Top: One 10' long 2" x 12"

Ends bevel at 45 degree

Both ramp tie to each oder so they spread out when you lower the car

Here are the ramps I made for my mid-rise.
I made them out of 3"X 2" and covered them with 3/4" outdoor grade ply. The main sections are 108" long x 16" wide - I had to go wide due to the large difference in track on my RSR.

For the ramp section I ripped sawed some 40" lengths of 3" X 2" diagonally across and then capped these with 40" x 16" X 3/4" ply.

These are relatively lite to store when working on the car (I drag them out of the way) and I can push the car up the ramps on my own.

Richard.

A big plus on this design. I used the 2 x 12's and the are very heavy. If light you can move them out of the way when you are working on the car.

Thanks Dan - I move the ramps out of the way whenever I am doing major work on the car - you can see them stacked against the wall in the left hand side of this photo.

I made the ramp section separate so that I can just remove them when working on the engine / gearbox

Light is good,

I used a combination of pressure treated wood and aluminum deck planking that we had laying around. If you add work extensions off the side then you won't have to move them These are 2' on each side . Put plastic sheet vapor barrier under everything too and some kind of metal plate for the rollers and pivot to ride on, again I used some scrap hull plugs that were laying around

Being able to roll up any carpeting for messy work is a good idea

An array of lifting buffers is handy too

Don't forget a drip tray under the engine, some cars are just so low that an removable layer is necessary, such is the case w/ my blue car
