Re-finished Fuchs Installed
Though my car is put away for the winter I couldn't help but mount my newly re-finished Fuchs on the car and pull it out of the garage on a sunlit day and take a couple pictures.
Here it is: ![]() Wheels were re-finished by Wheel Enhancements in the LA area--they were great to work with--and they got back to me last Thursday. The tires showed up Friday and the valve stems from Pelican Saturday. So I hauled everything down to the nearby Goodyear dealer and they did a mount and balance for me. As an aside, both front wheels needed no weights to balance them. The guy told me he double-checked and had a co-worker check a third time and both balanced perfectly. I removed a set of 17 Fikse Mag wheels and Continental tires that I will be posting here for sale later today (or tomorrow). I like the clear anodized petals better than solid black version. Now the car needs to be lowered about 3/4" or maybe an inch.

It is nice to see another Utah name pop up. Car looks good. I am just around the corner from you in Layton. My car will spend the winter outside driving everyday, so no re-finished wheels for me...but yours look great!!

Mountain Green! Many nice twisties in your area. Lived in Morgan for 7 years and commuted to SL through east canyon every summer in my 85. Sadly, live in Los Angeles now and no 911 in the stable for the moment. Still own our home in Deep Creek though. Maybe someday we will get back there. Car looks great and I like the unusual color.

Lived in Layton for many years before moving up here four years ago. Enjoy your Pcar through the winter. Laddsc & Regency, Lots of great roads around this beautiful area. The color is Linen Grey and I'm very happy with it. Thanks for the comments everyone.

Your car and refinished wheels look great. Your pic makes me wish I was back in Calgary (about as close geologically as one can get to UT in Canada).

Looks great. What are the sizes? The fronts look like 951 16 x7's and the rears look to be 16 x 8's or 9's from a 930.
Lowering it is a surprisingly easy DIY winter project. If it hasn't been done already, replace your spring plate bushings while doing so. You'll love it even more when done. |

Thanks for all the positive responses. The wheels are 16x6 & 16x8 with standard tire sizes.
I am planning to lower th car and possibly use wheel spacers to push the tires to the edge of the wheel arches (if necessary). This car replaces a Cayman S (that I totaled) and I'm liking this as well or better then the much more modern Porsche. There's something about an air-cooled 911--the smell and sound and feel--it's such a visceral experience. As well as having a number of 911 encounters as a kid. I'm a believer.

I live in Georgia and the concept of putting the car up for winter is foreign to me. However, when a child, my father's daily driver was a 68 912 that was never "put up" for the winter, despite living in Fargo ND among other hard winter areas. At the time he had no choice as that was his only car (Mom had stationwagen)
So are you guys putting your cars up simply to keep nature and chemicals away from the car? Perhaps more than one reason? |

Funny I just bought '79 911 in SLC and I live in Calgary last week. Had a great drive back, nice weather and enjoyed the twisties in Montana. |

I have nearly always put my sportscars away for the winter because first and foremost they are recreational vehicles--I have an AWD truck (Honda Ridgeline) and my wife drives a SUV (ML320 CDI) that can be driven year-round. And second, to preserve an old car from the the salt/sand mix spread on the wet/snowy roads. And finally, to avoid the increased risk of body damage from sliding into other cars or some hard, unyielding object from slippery snow-covered roads. Plus for me, wintertime is when I switch gears into alpine skiing for my adrenaline rush.
