Spoke with Timmins this week. Not that I doubt him, but it was news to me when he said I would need to bend the engine crossbar, reinforce it and remount the coils to another spot. I thought the 96 993 would bolt up with my Rothsport single pulley conversion (fan and crank).

Anyone else dealt with bending a 993 crossbar?

Dr. Timmons modified mine as he suggested to you. I used the oem RS single sheave pulley which shouldn't make any difference.

Motec looks a little beyond my electronic skillset.

I can get the right harness for $150. Would love to wire in an Immobilizer. Can't seem to find great info on this process in my searches. Anybody done this on a 96?

you need 3 things for a '96 3.6 conversion besides the flywheel parts
1) OBD2 compliant 88pin harness that will go from the engine to the DME under the seat
2) OBD2 compliant 88 pin DME
3) conversion harness to interface from the above to the chassis instruments and controls.

all US '96 up 993 came w/ an immobilizer, the issue is to get rid of it, most owners hate it.

on a conversion the immobilizer is generally not hooked up, but the DME still needs to be programmed to not want an immobilizer signal or it will not run.

Because of this you want to use a '97 0r '98 DME which is easier to reprogram

the '96 has a one year only two chip setup

the '97-98 has a single chip setup, I never worked w/ these but AFAIK the chip has to be unsoldered, reflashed then resoldered, Rennsport Sytems can do this,

The US '95 and RoW n/a all use 55pin harnesses and DMEs w/ a plug in chip, these are much easier to work w/, these are the only ones I've ever used

It may me possible to use a US '95 or RoW 55pin engine to DME harness and 55pin DME, but I never looked into that.

I reached out to Steve at Rennsport to have him freshen up my dist drive belt (which is a lot more expensive than it used to be by the way). I'll shoot him another email to see what he can do for my drive block.

Have you come up with a solution for your '96 DME yet. I'm at the same stage with my conversion and I really want this hiccup resolved. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/645203-finally-registered-pelican-introduction.html

Thanks, Tom

I did find a solution to my DME issue. I am purchasing a '97 computer & wiring harness. The '97 DME is re-programmed to remove the immobilizer and remaps the fuel a little bit to add some horsepower as well. Not a cheap solution, but I will have a computer that's programmable and won't be looking for an immobilizer.

I will also be getting the key fob and immobilizer computer from my '96 computer as well. So I'll have a '96 DME, immobilizer & key fob for someone if they want to buy it. Would be a cheaper solution than buying a '97 DME (bring your own wiring harness, though as I'll only have the one).

Thanks, I just landed a '98 DME up here in Canada and having it shipped to Timmins to be reprogrammed. These things are like rare Earth stones! It seems nobody wants the '96 DME. Even the 993 guys don't like them because of the inability to reprogram.
