Thumbs up Movie link, 911 2.7 RS against 300HP+ ferraris (huge file!)

It's one of "Best motoring" videos, and features track race with:

Lotus Europa 73' (165 hp)
Ferrari 246 GTS Dino (195 hp)
Porsche 911 Carrera RS 73' (210 hp)
Ferrari 308 GTBi (230 hp)
Lamborgini Countach LP400S 80' (353 hp)
Lamborgini Miura P400SV 72' (395 hp)
Ferrari 365 GT4 BB (380 hp)
De Tomaso Pantera 73' (350 hp)

Roling start, expirienced drivers...there is some rice-action in the firs half and fun stuff begins at later half. Video is unfortunately in japanese (titled in chinese?)...worth downloading tough!!! I also learned how to say "final lap" in japanese :-)

Size is 300MB (only for DSL-equipped guys!...sorry) and CODEC is DivX 5.0. If you expirience problems with viewing, download and install CODEC from http://www.divx.com/

Length of video is 58 minutes...

http://www.bilnorge.no/espen/bestmotoring.06.00.avi

Who won? I'll let you guys check it out...let's just say Lotus came 2:nd...

Enjoy and be careful not to spread this link to everyone, as too many people downloading the movie will clog the server and put it offline...server seems to have heaps of bandwidth right now.

P.S.
I really hope there is somebody on Pelican who speaks japanese or chinese , as it would be really interesting to hear "debriefing" comments after the race.

If I can pull it down this evening I'll see if I can't get my wife to do a rough translation--IF it's in Japanese.

"Finaaall laPPPu" means "final lap"...my japanese is just getting better and better.

I could also understand one of the guys saying that Countach had "gullwing doors and a huge wing" ...

Since I'm not that big a user of Internet video, it took me a while to figure out how to save this to disk. In case anybody else is in that boat, here's how:

Right-click the link to the video, and when the menu appears, choose "Save Target as" and give it a filename. Simple, but it eluded me at first!

Cheers,
E.

Don't bother with the first 30 min. of the video. Just a bunch of tuning video. The fun starts at about the 30 min. mark with some road racing. I think the 45 min. mark is when you get to the oldies running around the track. Won't spoil the RS's outcome for you. Oh, there is some pretty impressive footage of the Lamborghinis getting their butts kicked while their windshield wiper is flopping around at speed!

Let's just say the RS held it's own quite well.

OK, what codec is this thing using? My video player can't figure out how to decode the video. The audio plays OK, but I'm not going to sit my wife in front of the computer and say "here--listen to this for an hour and translate it."

I think it's easiest to download the DIVX player from divx.com. The DIVX player is smoother than Windows Media Player. When you run the new player, it'll tell you there's now an update for it as well. I'm sure it's a PITA if you have a modem connection.

Anyone notice that former Prost/Minardi F1 and CART driver Shinji Nakano was driving one of the cars. In the discussion at the end he was wearing he CART/Alpine sponsered fire suit. He's on the very left of the screen.

Here's info on Gari-San:

Kurosawa was known as "Japan's fastest" during the '60s and '70s, with his extremely precise setting abilities and well balanced driving sense. "Gan-san" as he is known, was fast enough in the international races to be offered a seat by an F1 team. He has been active in the motor industry after retiring, becoming a well-known motor journalist, technical advisor for Bridgestone and a member of the Japanese Car of the Year selection committee.

1965 Debuts as a motorcycle racer
1962 Wins the first All Japan Road Race (both 50cc and 125cc)
1965 Turns to auto racing
1967 All Japan S II Champion
1969 Japanese Grand Prix Champion (R382)
1973 Japanese Grand Prix Champion (F2000)
1977 Races in All Japan F2

And his friend's Dori-Dori's

1977 Debuts as a racer
1994 All Japan GT Championship Champion
1995 Le Mans 24 class Champion
Tokachi 24 overall Champion
Suzuka 1000km class Champion
1999 Le Mans24 overall runner up
2000 All Japan GT Championship Champion

I feel generous right now, so here are some more videos:
