Any one use BA9s Bulbs with High Power LEDs for Instruments

Some time ago I bought LEDs for the instruments from SuperBright. Since they draw so much less power, why not get the same size LEDs with a higher output? Anyone done this? If so what did you buy? Would these work instead of the standard replacements - BA9s Bulbs with High Power LEDs. Super Bright LEDs - BA9s and BA7s LED Bulbs Edit: and more specifically: 1.5W LED Wide Viewing Angle BA9s LED Bulb Specifications

Thoughts?

Isn't the BA9 base different than the BA7? Different bayonet? I'm not sure that BA9s would fit in the socket properly.

If you pull up the spec pages for both it shows that the BA9's have a larger diameter so my guess is the larger size won't work. I am considering doing the LED upgrades myself. I had hoped to find brighter bulbs so I was thinking along the same lines.

BA9s has a differnet base compared to BA7s, They will not fit the sockets.

I tried the Autolumination's 3X Brighter LED's for $4.99, False advertising, it is mayb 1.5 times brighter at best.

The only thing I do not like about LED for our gauges is that is throw very sharp shadows causing uneven illumination.

El-wire is much better if you want the LED look.

I have decided to try some proper BA7s 4 watt .33 amp blubs. I will be dipping them in craft glass paint light blue to obtian the whiter light. My lexus gauge light has the OEM light blue film on them and it cast white light on the gauges.

Me and Flatsix will probably post our findings

The problem with LED bulbs is the need to incorporate, encapsulate, a voltage dropping resistor, a relatively HIGH wattage voltage dropping resistor, within the bulb "package".

LEDs operate in the range of 1.8-3.0 volts....

In order to have a reasonable brightness level for my '88 guages I used an externally mounted 3W resistor in series with a 1W (300ma) "Strawhat" LED. Now if I could just find a way to get the OEM dimming reostat to work.
