Best 964 Belt Setup?
I am in admits a 964 3.6l motor rebuild to install into my 1981 911sc chassis. I am on the fence as to which pulley setup I should use?
1. Stock 964 3 Pulley Harmonic damper and single upper fan pulley. 2. Clewett Engineering Serpentine belt setup. 3. PMS, Rothsport, etc. Single RS pulley top and bottom setup. I have gotten varying opinions so far. Some say Harmonic damper is really needed on the 964 motor. Clewett hasn't seen or heard of any failures due to the use of their serpentine belt setup. Serpentine belt is a lot stronger and a much nicer setup than the stock wimpy 964 belt. I also wonder if the spring loaded tensioner on the Clewett serpentine belt setup provides its own harmonic dampening through the tension on the belt? My use is on a 80% street driven car setup for occasional weekend track events. Those that have used any of the setups above please tell your success / failures story.
