Ok my 83 SC came with a Carrera Decklid and a Whale Tail. Its in great shape but there were NO tails offered from 80-83 and I can't decide if I want to keep it or make it go away and restore my decklid to original. Does your SC have a tail??? Please show pics of the rear of your SC I need examples to decide!! PLEASE!!!!

My '81 has a tail and I love it!
Unfortunately my digital camera is out of commission right now but I'll post a pic when it is fixed.

![]() It isn't a Carrera tail, but the profile is close enough. I believe the early turbo-style tail was available as an option on SC's as well? Can anyone verify that? Here is my SC, with a Carrera tail. ![]() I personally don't care about originality (within reason, no V8 conversions planned), so I do to it what I makes me happy. Tom |

In '80 the Weissach Edition SC came with a tail that looks like a carry over from the Carrera 3.0. I have a book, Porsche 911: A Source Bok, that contains reprints of facory brochures. It clearly shows the 930 type tail offered as an option for SCs in '82 (cost was $1,325).
I have this "period" tail on my '78 SC. There have been several who have posted that they don't like this combo-narrow body SC w/ 930 tail. To my eyes it looks fine and my SC is the only car I've ever owned that did'nt get "light" at 80 +++ mph speeds.

First I bought a 3.3 turbotail and after that a 911. Last year I drove without the tail. But this winter I had it painted and put on the car. It looks much better with the tail.

Tony is correct; large 930 tail was available as an option on SCs in '82 and '83. Not sure about previous years, but Weissach edition certainly had early turbo-tail w/ one grille from factory, and SC/RS(?) had duck-tail.
As for aesthetic value, it really depends on the car, IMO. Right spoiler depending on color, wheels, etc. All subjective of course. I like the duck-tail on Jack Olsen's car a lot. I had a freind w/ a new '83 SC cab back in '84, grey market ROW car w/ turbo-tail from factory, triple-black w/ cool stickers in french on windshield, one of my all-time favorite 911's. ![]()

And just when I've talked myself out of adding Carrera flares/tail to my car, you guys just had to bring it up.

Below is my 83 SC with a tail. A more important factor than just looks when considering a tail is the improved handling at higher speeds. The tail, and front spoiler help considerably, as discussed on other threads. And oh yeah, please excuse the ratty, mis-matched track wheels. At least they are straight and true.

Although I cannot guarantee it. I am pretty sure that a turbo tail (tea tray type) was available as a factory option. I have a OEM turbo tail on my 83 SC coupe and I am mostly sure it rolled off the dealers floor with it on the car.

Seems to be no concensus. I have a Turbo Tail on a Carerra decklid. My decklid has Carerra script (gasp!) For those of you that do have turbo tails on your SC were is the 911SC script at??

There is a nice narrow body look but I think it's capped with a ducktail. It's in fact the opposite of the turbo look. From some angles the front end looks bigger and wider than the rear. A ducktail seems to exaggerate this look giving it a tear drop shape with the front being the bulb. It is a great look.
On the other hand, the wide back end look is nice too. However, I prefer one of these. Anything but a straight line from front to rear
