Can I repair my heater blower relay?

My heater blower relay has failed. Is it crazy to consider opening this tightly sealed relay to test and possibly repair? This would be a new one for me. This is the 611.618.153.00 relay. The $100-300 replacement cost makes a repair interesting.
Thanks,
CL

Chris,

This is what you are going to find inside the relay. If you are comfortable with electronics troubleshooting & repair have at it

This image indicates the jumper by-pass that eliminates the FW blowers reed switch from the circuit. The engine blower should still work with this by-pass. However since you have determine that your relay will not operate the engine blower, it would indicate that there might be a problem with the engine blower relay (there are separate relays for the engine blower & FW fans in the control unit.) If that is the case the jumper will not work as it needs the power from the engine blower relay to operate the FW blower relay...

Did you get my PM?
Good luck,
Andrew

Is this really the 911.618.153.00 unit?

sorry to butt in, but is it drawn as 2 items on the Bentley schematic (as a control unit and a relay)?

my guess is if the surface mounted parts or the winding in the Lrg coil are toast, it'll be a challenge, but if one of the transistors went, you'll be in luck.

trick may be in getting a schematic.

Dan

The Bentley diagram is for an "Autoheat" system. Chris' car is manual heat and would only have this "blower control unit" (not the "heater control unit"). Both systems use this 911.618.153.00 contol unit.

Andrew and Dan, I do have manual heat. This a picture of the inside of my relay. I thought I saw the problem with the contact plate being slight misaligned (see arrow on picture) but no. I will compare Andrew's photo with my relay to see if anything seems odd. If not, I may have a component failure.
Thanks both.
Chris
Andrew, I will check your PM in a minute. I have not seen it.

Chris,
If you need a 911.618.153.00 25Amp relay, I've got a used one for you for $75 shipped.
