New front chin spoiler and headlight cleaning. Wow...

As many know, I was going to install a front chin spoiler on my 1988 Targa Commemorative Edition. I gave a report that it made a huge difference at speeds 65mph and up. Its a must have item if you have a whale tail. I never posted a pic so here it is.....I also took the head lights out and cleaned the insides to get rid of the milky film that accumulated over the last 23 years.....Wow what a difference at night.

Got the same issue with my '89- what method or product did you use to clean your headlights? Beautiful car BTW..

Thanks

I used Clorox wipes, the ones w/ the ruff side for scrubbing - I was able to feed the wipes inside the lens via the bulb opening. I used various implements to reach the recesses of the lens including the following; bent coat hanger, plastic "wooden" spoon, and my fingers. It takes a while to get all of the grime. I then left the assembly to dry for a few days before reassembling.

Happy scrubbing...

I used a Grabber and cut up a few small t-shirts (4" x4") I lightly spayed some good window cleaner on the end of one rag and worked it around. The grabber tool was perfect for this task because I would open up the claws and grab on to the middle of a small cloth. I then spun the grabber around working ever area inside the light. It was like a mini car wash.

I've never removed the headlights..so you remove the headlight and clean the area behind the assembly? I guess I better grab my Bently and start reading..

Yup, remove the headlights. Its easy. 1st... unscrew the one philips that is holding the trim ring on. After the trim is removed, unscrew the 4 philips screws around the headlight approximately at the 2,4,8,10 o'clock position. Pull the headlight assembly out and pull the bulb out. Tip,...while the headlight trim ring is off. remove and clean the rubber gasket that the trim ring sits on. Clean the gasket channel and lightly apply some silicon to the gasket and reinstall.

Thanks for the ideas guys-for those of us still running the original light setups, this could make an obvious difference at night!

Just in case, when you say "original light setups", if you are referring to sealed beams this won't work. I'd hate to get in there and be dissapointed.

I think original on the Carreras were like mystros. Ours don't get messed up on the inside (81).

Edit - Original starting in 1987.
