Possible E-Bay Fraud alert

Beware this car for sale:

Porsche : 911 Porsche : 911 | eBay

This seller has had it posted it on EBay before. Notice the bidder with only four feedback postings since 2003 driving up the price? Actually, this very same car was sold on EBay already to this same shill bidder and feed back was given the very next day for it.

The very same car was for then for sale on Samba by the same seller and after a month or two of not selling, the add was pulled. Now it's back for sale and lo and behold the same shill account is active bidding on it. Funny thing, the bidder already bought it once!

This same bidder has three out of the four feedbacks with the same seller and only comes alive to bid on his auto auctions. It's a shill.

Be careful out there.

The location, Sheridan Wyoming, rings a bell.

I love the FRAM filter... and"Car doesn't leak" in spite of a photo clearly showing otherwise.

Interesting. I looked up "shill" on Wiki and to plant a "shill" - person who overtly laughs or applauds at a show - is not illegal. To cause a loss of value to another person is illegal.

Always check out the bids on eBay. The use of shills seems to have become fairly common. You can't always be certain it's going on but certain patterns should raise a question in your mind.

The other new thing is a No Reserve auction with a very high opening bid. That's not working out real well so it probably won't last.

Right now it seems that eBay is the best price guide we have going. It's far from perfect but it does get us in the ball park.

at comedy shows not illegal. at auctions, shill bidding is illegal in many jurisdictions (depends on state law) and certainly against ebay policy.

This Wyoming seller seems to be a part of Porsche legend at this point. A thread comes up about this person every 2-3 months.

Funny thing, I have sold 3 different cars to a guy in Sheridan, Wyoming, money was always delivered as promised and they were always picked up as promised. At one point I contacted him about buying a car and he gave me a run-around for weeks.

I love reading stories about this guy. Then again, I love reading all the MM horror stories. I guess I'm just attracted to train wrecks.

Rude dude...

He contacted me here when I was looking for some fenders. Basically pointed me toward his eBay ad. Seemed he didn't want to be bothered with questions though.

Buffalo Bill is his screen name on PP......sproketz on eBay......
