Suggestions re classic car insurance for 911s

I am about to stop using my 86 Targa as a DD (just had a baby and need a more practical car).

Geico said they'd give me a reduced premium if I used it solely for pleasure. But I am wondering if it would make more sense to try and get some kind of classic car insurance (Hagerty, etc).

The car is in decent shape but certainly not in mint or concours condition.

Can any of you recommend an insurance company that does P-cars or classics so I can get some quotes?

I use Grundy Worldwide for my classic insurance.....very competitive....Need to prove you have another vehicle for daily driver, excellent service, had one claim too but they were consumately professional and timely.
Will be going with them again in January...

Porsche Crest insurance

Hagerty , Great customer service & No problems Gr...y tried the old bait & switch on me . Quoted me one price then when it came time to pay for said policy . Said the car was modified . So the cost more to insure doubled . HA HA nice way to lose business

I was told last week from Hagerty car had to be in garage with picture to prove it. The quoted price was less than half of Nationwide for less 500 miles a year. Mine is a '74 coupe.

I used Chris from Beach Coast Insurance. He is a classic car owner based in Hermosa and is a broker for all the major classic car carriers. Beach Coast Insurance - Auto, Home, Business / Commercial Insurance and Life / Health Insurance for the Hermosa Beach, CA Area

The rate he got me for my '67 912 seemed pretty good, better than on line direct with the carrier. He is authorized to verify value and handles all the paperwork...and I know where to find him if something goes wrong!

Thanks all. Will give these companies a call.

Geico wants $500/6 months if the P-car is my second/pleasure vehicle.

Has anyone with these companies ever had to put a major claim in? I had an electrical fire (fried the wiring harness) wipe out my 968 this summer, and my insurance co (State Farm) totaled it and paid out more than I expected (though not quite what I thought it was worth). I was surprised that an insurance company would honor a claim like this, but now that I'm aware, I'm curious if this is typical. Now that this has happened to me, I'm willing to pay for this kind of protection....

Another for American Collectors. Half what I was paying for 2500 miles/yr.

Checked them all.

No claims to date......:>)

I'm paying $62/month for comprehensive insured at $15k with State Farm. They will also suspend payments due if I garage it this winter for a while. I can call them on a nice weekend and insure it and then cancel again on Monday. Pretty good policy for my intended use of this car.

Need a New Wiring Harness? PM or e-mail me. Search for "harnesses" in the classifieds.

+1 on State Farm Classic Insurance. Very affordable, agreed value, no inspection, no shenanigans re: second car requirement, etc. Got insured in an afternoon with photos and a bill of sale.

Hagerty has worked well for me. They insure on the agreeed market value. They do want pics inside and out but I had nothing to hide and it eliminates the crap cars from their company. It's a good thing.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned The Hartford. They gave us the best classic car insurance quotes about a decade ago, I jumped on them and don’t plan on switching any time soon. I don’t know if you’ll get the same deal as them as I did but it’s worth a shot.
