Anyone fit JDM rims on their 911?

Just curious. I know purists will hate it but curious if anyone has gone through the hassle of buying hub adaptors and fitting japanese rims on their early/mid year narrow body 911's?

I know the rauh welt guys did it with the SSR professors but their kits are crazy expensive and a bit over the top.

I sent emails back and forth with Watanabe a while ago. Unfortunately they don't make very wide 17 inch wheels, so 9 was the widest I could go in the rear. Might be good for a narrow body though. They look period correct, like minilites. Of course the yen is very strong now, it might not even make sense other than to be a little different.

I don't know much about the more modern styles though, since I didn't think most of the styles I've seen would look "right" on a 911

I had some nice Civic Si rims, but it just didn't seem worth the hassle when considering how many good rims are out there that will fit our cars fine....

Rauh Welt has some wild stuff, eh? Just saw them in Super Street mag.

Please refer to the following thread for an answer to your question

What's the typical "rice"thing on a 911?

Some of the modern styles are very old school as tuners and magazines are focusing more on old school Japanese cars. Some have deep dish, polished lips with gold mesh centers - just loke the old BBS rims that are common to find on 80's Porsches.... they would look great on a P car.

LOL well each to their own. Porsche tuning scene is big in japan as well so just a different style of modding.

Those wats look great!

What specs are they? 9's at the rear and 8's at the front?

17" would be too big for my car. 16's would be the biggest i'd go.

I should clarify, of the styles I liked, none were offered in a pcd and offset for my car. At least not that I could seee, there may be custom options available if you talk to the right people.

I found that picture through google, no details I'm afraid.

16s they sold up to 10 inch width, though the catch becomes the limited tire choice. But if you aren't going that wide anyway it might not be a problem.

To each their own, I guess. I've never cared for any of the JDM stuff, even when I drove a '71 240Z. I certainly wouldn't want any of it on my 911.

I often wonder if the perception of quality is part of a generation gap. To each his own for sure, but in terms of quality, made in japan has at least as much weight as made in germany. Certainly more than made in america.

Keep in mind nearly everything you see added on to a ricer civic (or focus for that matter) was probably made in china and cheap enough for a high school student to afford. The "real" JDM stuff is usually as well made as any other aftermarket item from the US or Europe. I say if you find a style you like and the company has a good reputation, ignore the country of origin.

Has nothing to do with quality. I sold wheels for a living in the '80s and '90s, I'm well aware of the quality of the good Japanese wheels. I just don't like the look. Way too gaudy and "look at me" for my taste.

Ah, well like I said, if you find a style you like. I find a lot of the Japanese options less gaudy than, say full polished CCWs, but unfortunately they don't make them in an offset/PCD for Porsche.

Back on topic, here are some Volks on a 964. Not for everyone, but I think this looks great.

Many Japanese wheel manufactures such as Rays, Enkei, and Advan make wheels in 5x130. The problem is that they are all in 18's and typically 964 and newer offsets.

The wheels on that 964 are very cool. If they came in 17s, I can totally see them on my car. Why not

What is the bolt pattern on Porsches?
I love the wheels I have on my Subaru...BBS 17X7.5 2004 STi forged wheels; between 15 and 16 lbs each.
