You all want to see how anal I am???
I was bored so I thought I'd take some pictures of how I keep track of the records on my car. I have every receipt and service record dating back to '82 on my car. I took all of them, put them in chroniological (sp) order, then put them in a three inch binder with page protectors... plus I decorated it a bit. Then I also keep a running diary on everything I do to the car in my spiral notebook. I started a seperate notebook for the engine rebuild. The first entry in the diary is on the day I bought the car... it's kind of fun to go back and read what I was thinking back then. Notice the good taste in stickers on the book... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 22 years is allot of friggin' paperwork! Oh, and since I'm at it... here's my floor jack ready to do some evil this weekend!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAA... ![]() ![]()

Leland, you have too much time on your hand, you need to do this to that jack to make it a real low-rider:

Leland, Surely you've heard the definition of commitment: When you look at plate of bacon and eggs, well, the chicken made a contribution, but the pig, he made a commitment. You are committed son!!
![]() BTW, that's a big bullet on your floor. ![]()

Leland,
That looks great, just the sort of thing I'm planning to do soon! If you ever, God forbid, had to sell your car just think how impressed the buyer would be! Cheers ![]() Tim. ____________ 1983 SC Targa |

Leland,
That book looks very similar to mine! My PO had all receipts (and even the original financing papers, window sticker, and application for title) since 1971. Most are from Porsche dealers and include 2 from Vasek Polak on a trip to California. The receipts total over $38K. The PO also kept a hand-written record on a little note pad of every significant event in the car's history. This was a 30-year old 50- cent notepad mind you, and when I picked up the car he tore the notes out for me but kept the notepad - "there's still some blank pages I can use", he said!! Realistically, it is great to have this kind of documentation. One can go back and find out exactly what was replaced when! ![]() |

My P.O. was the same way... He wouldn't even let me have teh car until he found out how I take care of things.. and he didn't even OWN it then!!! He had already traded it in on a New Carrera to the dealership!
But I love the documents stuff.. makes it easy to figure out what's been done. I need to get more organized with my stuff, though. Nice book, though! Chuck

I'm envious. I just throw all my stuff in a folder. Keep telling myself one day, one day...

Leland, with all that nice records housekeeping, it just might bring an extra $300 - $500 if you ever sell your car. I know it is something I'd be impressed with if I was looking at your car as a potential buyer.
All of the records for my car (since day one) are kept in a manila folder in my desk. I think I'm going to do something like you've done. Nice job.

Wow, so I'm not the only one!
I figured that some of you might have the same type of records keeping that I do. Just picked up the habbit from my father... ![]() Tom, the drum set is actaully set up. It is my old Tama beater set. I did have a real nice DW 5 pc. set several years ago.

Man, I'm feeling guilty! During the early years of owning my car, I never kept any records.

Well Leland... I was going to commend you for keeping such good track of your data, you're definitely beyond novice in this dep't.
However you may be in line for a serious flogging for disposing of your DW. You must have been under severe duress ? I don't doubt that many of us ( I use zippered binders w/ pockets to keep everything that won't stay in the rings ) exist whose cardiac condition would benefit from a bit of rectal relaxation when it comes to our babies. Or would that spoil all the fun? |

... I used the money to help pay for the 911!!!!!!!!!!! The old Tama set is fine for what I do now.... i.e. make noise. I used to actually be pretty good. Paul, I've heard that expression and for the most part, I agree. I've found that it helps me determine what parts of the car might cause me trouble in the future. Having it in a pretty binder is only for my personal enjoyment.

Funny, that's the same thing Ted Kazinski said about his "manifesto"! ![]() |

Curt...LOL! You ever read any of the articles comparing Kazinski's "Journal" to ALGORE's "Earth in the balance"book? Amazingly similar writing. But, as usual, I digressed. There is a HUGE difference between Leland and Kazinski. When Leland messes around with explosives, Uncle Sam pays him...Kazinski messed around with explosives and now all of us are paying for his lifetime room & board. UH...wait a sec here...uh...ahhh, heck!
