How Can I Find Out the Paint Code?

I know this should be asked in the Paint section but I don't see as much activity over there.

Anyways, the car was painted but if you remember my previous post http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/612833-brief-history-im-picking-up-911sc-tomorrow-after-being-painted-so-excited.html the original painter disappeared, the car went missing and it was just a mess!

I know he said it was an original Porsche paint code that they used. Any ideas on how I can figure this out? SmileWavy Thank you!

Look in the trunk passenger side wall you should see a metal placard with the PAG paint code

Will do, when I read PAG that triggered my memory but I can't remember the code behind that.

There should also be a sticker on the underside of the trunk/hood, cant see why it shouldnt still be there as painters rarely re-paint that area, unless a complete colour change is required.

Not on a 1979 model... Porsche didn't start doing this until about the spring of 1983. The stickers existed before that, they just didn't glue them there. Sometimes you can find one in the owner's maintenance book.

On your model, you will find a little metal plate in the front frame of the driver's door (see pic below). Check the number right from 'Farbton'.

On my 81 owners manual there is a clear plastic flap on the cover that holds a sticker with the paint color.

You can dig through these and see if something looks close.

Color-Online

Glasurit Classic Car Colors

Edit: I could not find too much in these but I may have found you something. Here is a Peter Morgan (and two other authors) book about authenticity. I am not sure if the whole book is available for review but on page 89 you can find every color (In English) and code for the 1979 as well as the other SC years.

I think this would be a real good start.

I just bought the "e-book" version. For $17.60. First e-book ever for me. No shipping, no tax, no wait. I am now set up to be an originality ninja.

A few years ago, I put this site together for old mercedes color codes which uses the same Glasurit paint the Porsche uses.

190SL Group - Colors - Photo Samples

In this link are the photos of the same model MB 190SL in many color examples with their color name and code. The internet colors they show don't do the colors justice. Hope this helps.

I am in the process of doing this for the 911, however, as you can imagine, there are a hell of a lot more colors to sort out. Currently, I have over 150 example photos.

When you figure out what color paint code that is is, please post, that is sweet color and you you don't see many gold 911's out there. My car was originally diarrhoea brown and PO painted it guards red which I love, but I see gold in its next repaint.

It looks a lot like glasurit color 462 Tunis Beige Metallic?
