930 popping noise on de-acceleration

Hey guys, new member here. My father in law moved his 1982 930 down to Florida, so we get to play now... Anyway, it is making a popping noise when slowing down? Is this ok? Is this related to the fuel quality, because I believe their was dry gas dumped in the fuel tank several times over the years. Thanks.

It seems fairly normal as many 930's with CIS do this. It is related to unburned fuel in the exhaust mixing with enough air to ignite on decel.

To be safe, though, chekc your timing and make sure the timing is advancing and retarding within spec's.

Check out the turbo forum and do a search and you'll find lots of discussion around CIS and decel popping, etc.

Have fun! They're wonderfully fun cars.

If the climate was ALOT different than Florida you should have the AFR checked out. You do not want to lean the engine out.

Does it shoot flames?

Great, thanks for the advice. Man this thing is loud when it spools up, and ridiculously fast too. Not sure about the flames or not. Does anyone know how many 1982 930's were produced?
