Engine lid gas support strut. Where it goes?

Dear all,

I am trying to understand where it goes the engine lid gas support(s). My car came without them but I can not figure out where they have to be installed.
I ve check Bentley manual but the darwing doesn't show where itis connected.

Can somebody show me in a photo where have to be installed?
Are they 2 or only one?

Help is very much appreciated.
Regards

Quite clear now. That is why I couldnt see it in other engine photos.
Many thanks.

Do you know if it has the gas strut in only one of the hinges, or it goes in both?

Regards

I think turbo has two, standard is one

My 88 Targa is not a turbo, but has a tail and it has 2 struts on the rear. I need to replace the front and rear.

My 89 SAE has two. Pretty easy with long hemostats or curved pliers.

I went back out and checked, there is a bracket on both sides on the body but only one lid arm has a bracket, I was looking to put two gas struts in but couldn't. Seems like they last a good number of years then need replacing.

Most only have the one on the Body and engine lid on the Left (Drivers Side) of the car. If your Engine lid is heavy and 1 strut is not doing it, you can mount a second on on the same side. I am using 3 bad struts on the left side the Whale Tails are a lot heavier.

All you need to do is use Longer Bolts and a spacer then use a Nylock Nut or double nut the bolt so it does not come loose.

My car has only one strut on the driver side and the engine lid opens fine.

I and see your desire to have two but the factory only put two in for cars with whale tales and a/c condensor.

I needed to install two new gas struts to enable to hold my new fiberglass duck tail. However, there were two used on the old standard deck lid.

The standard lid without tail originally came with one bracket, driver side.

Aftermarker tail (turbo/carrera) install, required two, so people improperly installed a dual strut which caused the lid to deform when closed.

The real Turbos have the bracket on the passenger side lid hinge. Luckily PAG designed (or at least on the 3.2) a bracket for a future install of a strut but it requires a Turbo lid hinge.

Some have welded a bracket to accomodate for passenger side strut.

I ended up swapping my OEM hinge for a turbo hinge to keep the lid straight and keep my tail up :D
