My 84 911 has new filters, dist. cap, rotor, wires, plugs, no apparent vacuum leaks and had the idle adjusted by the Bentley book. Still my Subaru with 270,000 miles onit has a perfectly smooth idle, my friends corvette and firebird idle smoother etc. I cleaned the idle stabilization valve etc. It still has an uneven idle, just seems to wander by 50-100 rpm while hovering around 800-900. Sometimes it does the dreaded 900 to 1200 momentary jump etc. Is it me, shouldn't this finely crafted piece of teutonic machinery be at least as smooth as my Subaru? Runs fine to redline, I use 89 to 92 octane and run fuel injection cleaner often. Is this normal, since everyone in my local PCA chapter doesn't seem to concerned.

Have your idle mixture adjusted. My guess is it's running too rich.

The only screw visable is the air screw, is the mixture screw somewhere on the airflow mass sensor behind some cover to prevent tampering? thanks for the reply
