Do I have the right targa seal ?

My top fits snugly and rattles are almost inexistent. However, the front lip sticks to much and causes a lot of noise, even at moderate speeds.
Could it be that the seal is the wrong later one, that seats higher ?

I have/had the same issue. The OEM seal is now NLA and what you bought or the PO bought and installed is a reproduction. I cut mine down to size by removing it from the car and trimming about 1/4 inch off of the part that fits in the groove. This signifigantly reduced the noise that you are currently experiencing. You want the top to sit almost flush with the top of the windscreen, if it protrudes even slightly, it will be loud!

Dan at Parts Inc has made a reproduction that fits correctly. He posts regularly on the board.

Be carefull with the one you have. You run the risk of losing your top at speed.

I'm not sure that the problem is the seal and not the top adjustment.
So i'm adding some pics of the seal. Can the experts chime in on whether this is the right seal ??

Need to see the corners too.

From the pics of the top height, it appears you have the wrong front seal or PO had placed some type of filler to raise the height of the seal thinking it will make tighter fit, not.

Order a new seal from Dan and I bet when you remove the old one and any added adhesive but I bet you will see a bunch of fill as well. Ask me how I know

Jim

From the pictures, your top sits high on the driver's side and the seal is not in the channel correctly. It looks like the seal has ridden up and is interfering with the fit.

I had the wrong seal in my 1981. Before I cut it back, the "vent window" would squish it out pretty good. Not like your first pic in post #6.

I think the size of your seal is ok. It is the ill fit on the driver's side causing the problem. It may so beaten out of shape a new (Pechtel) seal would be just the trick.

Took a better look at the top and the driver side of the front lip is higher in fact. It's not the seal apparently.
Looks like the vinyl shrinked in that area...
