911/930 CDI. Okay to bypass bad power supply?

Stock 1986 911/930...cdi only getting 5.5 volts in...rest of car testing 12v+.
Is there any harm in running temporary power supply to the cdi, via splicing in 12v
supply into 6 pin plug? I`ve done all the trouble shooting that I know, Thanks.

Which pin of the six pin connector do you propose to connect +12?

is it a 911 or a 930? the 930 has a delayed ignition cutoff relay that the 12V goes through just ahead of the CD unit. could be that. the small aluminum box next to the larger aluminum box on the engine electrical panel.

I have hotwired the ignition before in my car to get it home. No problem except you can't shut off the car (it will die when the fuel pressure drops), and the battery will drain if you don't disconnect it.

Rather obvious, isn't it?
