Ive always pulled my P. engine along with the trans. but wanted to try something different this time around for a quick oil will leak repair and check out........are there any special considerations I need to be aware of in pulling the engine only, leaving the trans., cv's, starter, shift coupler, etc. attached? Can the cv assemblies take the full weight of the transmission without the engine and can the trans. be lowered at enough of an angle so that the engine will clear the rear deck?
Thanks for any insight, Don |

yes..yes...and yes... I recently pulled the motor and left the tranny in the car. I followed all the procedures for complete removal including the shifter coupling. The tranny came down at a nice angle and the motor came out with no problems. Once the motor was out I simply put a jackstand under the tranny just to support the weight. The only tricky part was putting it back in and getting the fork onto the throughout bearing correctly. It only took 2 tries.

Greg, thanks for your confirmation on the engine only pull. How much of a time saving did you find the "engine only" method over an "engine and trans" pull?

IM not sure how much time I saved, as I have never dropped a 911 motor before. I am not sure how much more work I would have to do if I wanted both of them out. This was the very first time and it took me about 3 hours. No rocket science involved just common sense.
