timing my engine...

Hello all.

In timing my engine (74 2.7), my pulley has a 5deg ATDC mark on it. I assume this is correct for my year even though it did not come factory with a smog pump.

My question is, the idle timing adjustment, is this adjusted with the vacuum hose connected or diconnected? I have heard both.
I am used to small block Chevy's where you disconnect the vacuum advance for the timing adjustment.

Also, to adjust mixture, which way to turn allen key to lean the mixture (CIS)?

I need to get a CO analyzer to set my mixture. What is the peoples choice for a stand alone analyzer?

The car stumbles a bit when I drove it around the block. This was the first time driving this car since the complete rebuild. It seems to be really rich. Pulled a plug tonight and it looked wet. Mostly tan to dark brown on color.

Hopefully I can figure it out so I can drive this machine soon.

Thanks for all the help!

Chris

Chris:

I plugged my vacuum line permenantly and set the timing to Z1 (TDC) @ 900 RPMs. Runs like a scalded dog.

If your car has a CDI unit make sure that the points are set to spec or .001 over.
