84 Rear View Mirror Fell Off --- Help

Any one have a good fix for this one??

1st the little dim lever on the bottom broke a few weeks ago and now when I was cleaning the inside of the wind screen and bumped it the entire mirror fell off.

I tried some Locktite instant super type glue I had on hand but it would not adhere. Porsche must have uses a certain type of adhesive for it to hold on the past 27 years, anyone know what to use?

This must be a common problem as these cars get older.

Thanks ... Rich

There are specific windscreen mirror adhesives, Loctite make a kit. I found these eventually gave way, however. After a few failures I found the best solution was to go to a replacement windscreen installer. They have UV activated adhesives which hold for years, and the cost is minimal

any auto parts store will have rear view mirror adhesive which will hold for many years if you follow the directions.

Super Glue did the trick for me. Just need to hold it in place for a couple of minutes.

I just did mine a few weeks ago.. You need to remove the button, clean it good and score it with a blade or screw driver, and clean the glass very well. The rearview mirror adhesive didn't work for me, I then tried some good 2 part epoxy glue, and it worked like a charm. Mix the epoxy, don't use too much.. hold the button in place with a piece of duct tape and let dry for a few hours, then you're ready to install the rearview mirror. Hope this helped.

Scott - what a good idea. UV actuation, just like my dentist uses on the fillings these days.

Have you checked with a windshield glass shop?

I had the mirror fall off my daily driver. A body shop I've used over the years gave me "a referral" to a shop down the street. I pulled in, we had a good conversation while he worked and when I tried to pay him, he refused to take any money!
