How to remove Boge shock covers ???

edit:1/1/12
After installing them, I am very happy with them on my lowered car without having been able to remove the covers and access the bumpstops first.
Thanks for all the input though.

uh, that piece simply slides off the top. ^^Cut the banding strap, unscrew the nut at the top, slide the rubbers off and then tube slides right off.

I recall mine were pretty tight and I had to use a rubber mallet to help it off to slip on some AUDI rubber covers.

But like you said if it works don't fix it

Thanks for that. I tried hammering a bit too, but when it started disfiguring the cover, I gave up.

Please anyone 'actually' know anything about these? Still curious, but I went ahead and installed them without getting to cut the bump stops, and they do work tremendously better than the super stiff KYB's that were on there.
The KYB's are also solid state and dust covers can't be removed either. Must just be Bilstein and Konis that you can get to the bump stops.
Anywho, alls well that ends well, thanks for the help Pelican....NOT.
you didn't get any response, because basically, nobody uses boges, so nobody would know if the covers come off or not. bilsteins, you would get answers.

The original post did indicate these were for the rear. But I guess everyone was surprised to see Boge.
I am about to replace all shocks on my 86; I know the front are Boge so I bought the Bilstein inserts for Boge and Bilstein rear shocks.
Since I haven't started yet I am not sure what my car currently has in the rear so I cannot help the OP.
