I have found that the hazard switch is the culprit sometimes.
|
Even if the hazards work as they are suppose to? Everything else works perfectly except the turns

Well I am still trying to solve this issue. Although seeing as I just got a nice blown rear drivers side rear tire, I need to attend to that as well.
|
So I am still baffled by this issue. Right now I have a new turn signal stalk, new bulbs, new turn signal relay etc... Still the hazards, headlights, parking lights all work. Just the damn turn signals will still not work now do the arrows in the tach light up. This is just a total mystery.

Be sure to check the female side of the relay for good connectivity.
I'd also start verifying every ground wire in the relevant circuit. What year car? Doyle |
82 car. The relay is new and connections are solid. I am really just at a loss with this one.

82 wire issue
You mention that you had found a wire shorting to blow fuse #8,
what wire was it? Start with this issue and check the wire again to insure proper connection. Also remove turn signal housings and make sure all connections are proper including the ground wire , these are easy to become displaced when installed due to lenght of the wires. The ground attaches to the outside of the housing next to the socket connectors. You can check for power to each socket with test meter. As stated by others start with voltage check on the turn signal side of the fuse,if it's there then continue down to each turn signal unit.IF NOT THERE work backwords Also I reviewed my copy of CLYMERS SHOP MANUAL FOR 1965-1982 IT HAS ALL THE WIRING DIAGRAMS INCLUDING 82.quick review shows that the power supply from the emergency feed is different form the turn signal power only by turnsignal switch itself after that it;s the same as far as I can see. Suggest you buy the manual and review the wiring diagrams and go at it for check points. Let us know how it goes. |
It was the wire coming from the reverse switch. That problem was solved. I just don't understand that once that was fixed and there are no other shorts, why the turns won't come back on at this point. Evberything else works, accept the turns. Just doesn't make sense.

LIVEVIL, maybe it's a 'jersey thing', because I have the exact same issue. I'm watching this thread very intently...

Just wanted to clarify my wording.. I don't think my Bentley goes back that far (year) but will take time to peruse the circuit(s). Doyle |
Thanks for any help. I really want to get this corrected before the season starts up and I drive the car regularly again.
|
So I never got this resolved. The turn signals still do not work. They Hazards work just fine, but no signal lights work in the Tach. I found that the reverse switch wires were grounding and causing the problem before. That is fixed but the turn signals just refuse to work. No fuses blown, everything connected. The Turn signal stalk is new, flasher relax also. Anyone else have any ideas?
|
I had the exact same issue. Ended up being a spade wire under the dash that had come unhooked somehow... The wire was right under the ignition switch. I just happened to notice the two ends were not connected. "What the heck," I figured, so I just hooked them back up and the signals worked great.
|
I will be getting under there yet again and seeing if anything is unhooked or come undone. It's really driving me insane. The car is pretty much put away for the season but I'd like to get this resolved once and for all

What flasher relay are you using?
Tried several different ones and none worked correctly.........until i bought the expensive one here on Pelican. Pelican Parts - Product Information: 914-618-303-11-M44 |
You replaced the stalk switch.
Did you get all the wires back on in the correct locations? Try this: With the car in darkness (inside garage or night time) flip the turn signal switch up or down like you are signaling for a turn. Get out of the car. The parking lamps should be illuminated on one side of the car. What is the result? |
Ok so here's the deal. FINALLY THE DAMN LIGHTS WORK AGAIN!!!!! Thanks to everyone who had suggestions and put in help to get this resolved. So I got under there again, which isn't easy considering the cage forces you to contort into the most break neck position to get in. I have been under that dash 100X and never seen anything out of the ordinary. I know if was grounding out, that was fixed. Replaced every fuse just incase. New stalk and new relay from right here on Pelican. Got the exact part # from another helpful thread. So I take a look again tonight and amazingly I am able to trace a femal spade connector that is hanging out all lonesome. I then find in a bundle a Male connector that has also lost it's way. I am telling you I have never once seen those 2 apart. I join them once again and Boom, I have turn signals. Everything flashing and lighting up correctly.

Glad you found it. That is exactly how I found mine. No idea how they came apart between parking the car in the garage the night before and going to work the next morning... Only I found this problem after 10 minutes of investigating, so FAR less frustrating than your experience! I was certain it was the flasher unit, but decided to check under the dash for some reason....
I own British cars, so I'm used to weird electrical issues, but not wires randomly unhooking like mine did! They usually just melt in the Brit cars... |
Turn signal problems
Hi to all,
I'm having problems of my own with a turn signal on the right side of the car; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't... When it doesn't, it looks like a short-circuit because all the other gauges lights go dim when the flasher comes on. I had a blown fuse issue, blown bulb and finally I replaced the flasher unit (I replaced the original thermal 550 with an EL-13). When I remove the whole front right turn signal assembly from the chassis, the turn signal works; when I screw it back on it seems to short... I can't see where the wires could be broken and touch the chassis (which is fully painted anyways) ! I've been reading the different posts and it seems the following items should be checked: -Broken wires creating a short-circuit; -Fuses; -Flasher relay; -Steering column switches; -Backup light switch; My car was originally a 912 converted to 911 (engine, transmission and body work). I've downloaded a wiring diagram for the 912 and there seems to be a relay after the flasher unit ?! Any other clues ? Thanks, Marc-André. |
