How are these... anyone have any experience with them? Only 76 bucks on tirerack.com Thanks

I used these for the last 2 AutoX events last year. They are much better than the SP5000's I had before. They aren't great in the wet, but much stickier on dry. They also give plenty of warning before they break loose. I have gotten decent treadlife out of them, as well.

I give them big thumbs up. For a street time, they are a 5/10.
For AutoX/Street, they are a 7/10.
For a DE/street tire, I will let you know.

I would buy them again.

Great bang for the buck. Pretty good at DE events, but get a bit mushy when hot. The perfect street tire. The 205/60/15 profile fills up the wheel wells nicely and looks good. Also, the spedo is mostly correct as the outside diameter is near stock...

i got them last year from tirerack. i'd say that for the price you can't go wrong. it is a well established performance tire. it is not the latest cutting edge technology, but a very good value and more tire than most need.

some people think you can't even get them anymore. they are pretty well respected.

I'm on my 3rd set, so I guess that answers the question of whether I'd buy them again.

Best bang for the buck, as long as you are not expecting state of the art technology. I have had two sets - very good grip, reasonable tread wear, progressive breakaway, available in many sizes, "vintage" looking Porsche tire. Recommended.

Tho' i don't have 'em on my 911(RE730), i've had a set on my BMW cars since the introduction of AVS in 1988ish. Originally just "AVS" was introduced, now evolved into AVS Int, Sport, etc.
Got the AVS Int. on my BMW 5 series now.
Usually get 30K miles on a set of daily (non-spirited) driving.

Buy them.

Great tire for DE - considerable step up in price for anything better. I'm running 225/50 & 245/45 on 7&8x16 BBS wheels, which really lifted performance over Pirelli P7000s on stock Fuchs. Great for street, and track, although I agree with gaijinda that they can be a little softish when really hot.
Buy 'em again in a hearbeat!

I just purchased and only have a couple hundred miles on them but so far so good! And you cannot beat the price! I have yet to push them to the limit and I need some suspension work, but from everything I have read they are great tires!

how did the rumor of these being no longer available get started? almost ordered the DBs but found out they were in stock from tirerack 2 weeks ago.
just had them mounted to my car along with a complete susp overhaul. so far so good. i agree with everything stated above except my car is not a track car so i cannot comment on that.
they seem to be the tire of choice amongst the r gruppe.

I have 4 on my daily driver 1994 BMW 530i for a couple of years now (30k mi and looks like they have 10k left in them) and love them so much that I mounted 4 more last summer on my '75 911S replacing my aged Michelin XWS'. Definitely a great tire.

I just wore out a pair of 285/40-15 AVS Sport with assymetrical half slick half threaded thread. Awesome grip...

I used to run them on my RSR wheels, and sold them when I couldn't find 285/40's any more. I did manage to find a set, and paid dearly for them.

Can you run a 315/35-15?

I may have been the starter of the "NLA" rumor? If so, I apologize. I wasn't referring to the AVS Yoko though. I was crying because the A008P Yoko is NLA in 195/65...that's what I'm running now, and like them. Still debating what I'll go to when they wear out. The AVS Intermediate, 205/60 is definitely on the list of candidates.

I run 255/45-15s on the front and 345/35-15s on the rear.
Wheels are 15x9 and 15x12. You have to space carefully to avoid rubbing in race conditions. I have auto-x ed mine with no problem.
BTW, Pirrelli P-zeros in the same 345 size are a full 3/4 inch more narrow than the Yokos. The 225s are similar in both.

Wow! That's some rubber! I've seen 15x12's for sale a couple of times, and was tempted. The ones I saw weren't that expensive, probably because the target market is pretty small.

That would make a killer autocross setup!

I have them on my car on my 15 x 6's , size 205 60 15 and I think they are a pretty good tire.

Being a former autocrosser, I can tell you these are a far cry from track tires, but a good soft and safe street tire with the value being great.

So, folks seems to say this is a good tire "for the money." Is this like being the 'fastest Yugo" or the 'prettiest boar?'

Also, folks say this tire (I'm talking about the AVS Intermediate) is not the best in wet conditions. Well, my SC is a Seattle area daily driver and no, she does not get parked in any garage for months just because it rains constantly from October through April. What can you tell me about this tire's wet performance? I am currently running Michelin Pilot XGTs, which are very good in wet, but probably not as sticky in dry.

The TireRack price for the AVS is pretty hard to beat!

I guess it really depends on your budget, etc. The AVS is a fantastic tire (cutting edge in its day), but it is older technology. As I type this, I'm trying to decide on whether to get a set of 205/60-15 AVS's ($53 each, perfect size) or a set of 205/55-15 Bridgestone S-03's ($102 each, lower my gearing a wee bit) for my 73 911S.
