Carrera and Stone Guard removal

All,

I need to give the car a very thorough exterior detail over the next couple of days. The stone guards came off though left some tacky residue. I’d also like to remove my Carrera badge on the rear deck but assume that will leave residue also.

1) How to safely remove the Carrera badge? I’ve heard using dental floss to “saw” through it works, any better suggestions?
2) How to I get the glue off without damaging the paint?

3M Adhesive Remover

I removed many badges before, it's a two step process:
1. Remove badge by using thin plastic rope / thread (dental floss is not strong enough) with "sawing" motion. Do not pull the badge as this may damage surface.
2. Remove glue residue by dab it with kerosene or gasoline (a little amount is safe for paint) then scrape it with plastic scrapper (or credit card).
Lastly polish the paint with compound and wax it off.

The better way i found to remove glue residues is White-spirit.


No problem with paint if done without sun shining on and washed after a few minutes.

Also for asphalt residues : apply it and appreciate how it works : the asphalt leaks.

I use that way of doing since many years.

Comparing to dedicated products , more expensive , i find "White-spirit" more efficient.

Eucalyptus oil will remove the adhesive easily and is gentle on the paint.

Wax will take off residue from decals. I keep a container of cheap wax around like Nu polish just for this purpose.

Monofilament fishing line is ideal for this purpose -- thin, long, and sturdy.

Also, heat up the emblem a little w/electric heat gun (on low) or hair dryer (on high) to help soften the adhesive and the Carrera emblem. Don't go so hot you blister the paint, just warm enough and the emblem will come off easily and leave less residue, too.
