Can I extend a wideband sensor wire?
I have the Innovate Motorsports MTX-L AFR gauge and controller.
The cable is about 3ft short of making it to the dash. Can I cut and splice the wires another 3-4ft from the existing 8ft? They sell an 18ft cable, but it is $79! Will this affect the accuracy? |
Is it a shielded cable? If so you may not be able to extend it. The other issue may be that the wire is designed with a certain amount of resistance in it to make the system work properly.
On the other hand if the wires are just plain 18 or 20 gauge stranded wire I don't think this would be a problem. |
Yes
edit: yes you can splice it no will not affect accuracy |
Thanks all!

Yep..did it on mine...trimmed the sheathing on each wire about 1/2 inch..spread the wires and intertwined them...twisted...soldered...heat shrink...then I used a 7' section of heat shrink to make the bundle tidy and easy to route.
Works like a champ. |

The harness has a sheath around it sealed to the connectors. The pigtail from the gauge/controller has seperate wires and seems to be easier to splice into. |
Spliced between the controller and the O2 sensor. I mounted the controller under the passenger floorboard. Ran the wire along the tunnel, through the grommet in the drivers side rear footwell. Just secured the wire with the existing tabs. I use the Dynojet WBO2.

Ah, totally different unit. Thanks.

Did it on mine. Spliced the 6 wires to add an additional 6 feet at the rear tunnel access opening. Also fed the connector for the lap top hook up from there. Works like a charm and completely invisible. mounted the gauge to the cigarette lighter hole. Piece of cake.
