troubles with my 3.2 ROW swap continue

Located in Los Angeles

So it seems my 83 911 SC is still giving me trouble.
I added a 3.2 ROW engine (80k miles) to my car. Keep in mind the engine sat for nearly 3 years before I purchased it, but looked well cared for.

I recently adjusted the valve guides, replaced main seal and various gaskets as well as the oil, New Fuel filter, New Spark plug wires, New Cap, New Rotor.

At first I couldn't get the car Started
A fellow pelican member Hugh, Was even nice enough to drop by and test my ROW DME in his car (also a ROW) very nice guy

this is the thread
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/633842-help-row-dme-84-86-carrera-anyone-wanna-test-los-angeles.html

and previous thread when I was trying to figure out the wiring harness (if any one needs help let me know)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/620190-wiring-fuse-box-help-needed-83-sc-3-0-3-2-euro-conversion-photos.html

(it ended up being so easy after I figured out the kinks)

Only to find out I had two Big but simple problems.

1. fuel pump wiring was in the wrong position + extra red wire needed to be removed
I didn't remove the old wire from the top of the fuse port and only added the lower one.

2. Fuel lines were backwards (yes very silly) this is why the car would only start with a quick start can.

After finally getting most of the wiring sorted and fuel lines swapped the car fired up for the first time on it's on. Hooray!

but now the troubles continued.....

It still won't run right. It idles but when I give it gas it wants to die then shoots up in the RPM range.

On my first venture for a test ride it wouldn't leave till I revved it up.
I think this was because my clutch cable wasn't adjust right.... my foot had to be nearly at the very top before the car moved. (next step)

I was told to "just run it" and let the engine clear it self.

When I was going down the road it would lunge forward then drive normal, then slow down.... over and over again.

(back forth back forth back forth)

fuel pump is loud btw...but the one I switched out was also very loud.
I might need a new fuel pump ?????

I should also mention once the engine has been warmed up and turned off
It WILL NOT start up again...it turns over till the battery dies....Then I have to charge the battery up wait till it's cold and then it fires up again.....weird

heat ? Fuel ? Electrical part ?

Vacuum ....

Seems I had two little vacuum leaks both from the same area in the throttle body rubber boot.

1. hose that goes from the Oil tank breather to the back of the throttle body rubber boot.
I plugged this with a bolt. Would Idle erratic with out it. I eventually want to add the Carrera Oil tank so I can run this hose, since I heard the engine needs it in order to not run rich.

2. small 1-2 inch hose that connects in the shape of a "U" on the same throttle body rubber boot.
(switched a new one) would idle bad when removed.
like on this thread
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/244965-911-3-2-carrera-vacuum-hose-disconnected.html
but come to think of it I'm not sure I have the second tube plugged or routed.

Smokes
It also Smoke like crazy when I rev it high.
but does not smoke at idle. I assume it's because it hasn't fully cleared out.

I have a Cat by pass with a 02 censor
(but sensor is not connected to anything since my ROW doesn't even have a plug for 02)

ENGINE FEELS AND SOUNDS STRONG

Things I though it was but fixed.
1. AFM (square box) added one from a 964 and made no change
since the old one looked like it had been taken apart before.
2. checked all grounds (that I could think of)
3. Replaced coil with a newer 964 that I had laying around (no difference)
4. checked DME relay (opened it up and inspected) so this is good.
dme relay does make the clicking sounds right before it starts.

I want to drive my car already!!!
I was having bad thoughts of parting the car...but don't want to go that route.

I can't afford to take it to a shop and I'd really like to learn whats wrong with it and hopefully get it fixed on my own.

Suggestions ?
Advise ?

Listening to you , i primary think to an ignition timing problem.

Do you double-check your distributor and his position ???
