915 Swap. How Long?

I have searched but haven't found the answer to this question. How long should it take a shop to swap out a 915 in my Carrera? No repair work, just a straight swap.
Thanks!

-e.

It would take me a couple hours to drop the motor, an hour to put the new tranny on the engine, then a couple hours to put the motor back in. Probably 6-8 hours shop time would be my guess.

I have heard of people who know what there doing drop the motor in under an hour. If the shop is a good P-Car shop and they know what they are doing I would say 1.5 hours to get it out no more than 2 to swap and then 1.5 to get it back in.

so 5ish hours

Just did it in my car. I have no cruise or a/c, but it took me an hour to get it out and it was my second time. I cleaned and fixed a few leaks but I also removed the trans and swapped the clutch which added up to about an hour for the trans and clutch part, and about two hours back in by myself. If I had a buddy to help with the leverage of lining up bolts to the motor mounts maybe quicker? So if you hurry it's realisticly 4-5 hours.

Thanks for the replies. My guy quoted me ten hours which I thought was a bit much.

10 hours? For a 'pro' shop? Find another shop. It takes me, with no lift, 1.5 hours to pull the entire assy out. I would expect a pro to do it faster on a lift. Call it 4 billable hours max.

I paid 9 hours of labor for an entire 915 rebuild that included R&R the tranny. Yeah, that's a bit much.

How long it actually takes and the amount of time charged may be two different things. There's a "book" time (flat rate) that most shops use as a reference. Using your phone, shop around among the qualified repair shops in your area.

Many years ago, i was charged $400 to remove and install the transmission on a 911 when there was a warranty thing done on a transmission. That is about 4 hours.

I cannot remove the engine in 4 hours by mysef. It is at least a one day project without a proper lift. With a 2 post lift, I think it could save quite a bit of time.

Yeah, I'd shop that one. I've done it more than a few times. My last was in and out in about three hours and I was by myself. Competent shop with a lift should be able to to do it under four or a flat rate. A lot of shops have been hurting over the last few years and I think they are trying to make up for some lost wages.
