Question Yoko A032R Start Pressure?

Just mounted a set of 225/50 and 245/45s on 7 & 9" Fuchs for track event next weekend. Anyone with experience on these tires and suggestions for starting tire pressure?

For AO32Rs and the track on a 911, start at 23 front and 25 rear. Bleed when hot to 25 front and 29 rear. I know this seems low, but it works - these tires will get greasy when pressures rise above 30psi.

Hey randy, your the god of auto-xing so i'm listening to you on this since I have these tires and have not run them that low before. And no, I'm not ass-kissing I do drive my car on the street some times. Got to test it and show it off. What do you recommend for street driving. The pressures you stated seem to low for the street but what do i know?
Congrat. on your recent victory. Your giving porsche and auto-xing a GREAT name.

Tobluforu, thanks (I think) . I've just been doing this for awhile and really had a desire to get good at it, that's all.

As for AO32R street pressures, they would be higher of course - somewhere around 30/34. This works fine, since they never get thet hot off the track and you're not pushing the tire to its limits.

Randy, is the 23/25 suggestion for autocrossing, track or both? I know that with most track tires, you want the pressures to peak at about 40, but should the hot-point target be lower with the A032R's? I assume the 25/29 figure is for once the tires are warmed up, but not for a hot-pit quick check temperature. But maybe I'm wrong.

I've never used the A032R's, but Tyson and I need to use them for the Open Track Challenge in May -- so I'm eager to get the learning curve out of the way.

Hi Jack, the 23/25 start pressures are for cold AO32Rs before you go out on the track. The 25/29 hot pressures I recommend for these tires are for the hot pit quick check once they are fully warmed up (after about five laps). I have run these pressures on AO32Rs at the track and they are correct, as verified by other driving instructors that use these tires for DE as well. These tires are unlike any others (except the old R1s) and will start sliding once the rear pressures rise above 30, and they get really greasy feeling above 34psi. 40psi would be downright dangerous. For autocrossing I use the AO32Rs in damp conditions. There I start the first run at 24/28 and bleed to the same pressure after each run.

Randy - thanks for sharing your experience as I would never had thought to run pressure that low. I'll report my experience next weekend.

Great response Randy.
Do you have a similar sense of optimum pressures for AVS Intermediates on the track? I have a feeling many of us run our tire pressures way too high for the temps they reach in hard lapping.
Thanx,

Tony, I have not run AVS intermediates at the track for a long time. I would assume they would do well with what most people recommend for 911 street tires at the track: about 35/39 Hot. Anyone else have a better feel for these tires?

Porsche Crest Yoko Press

I used 27/29 cold on my '88 Carrera, 225 and 245 on 7x9 16's. Yoko recommends 1 pound per hundred of vehicle weight.

Got a few trophies to prove it.
