Resale value of a modified motor

Got to pick up my 930 engine from the shop today. Had everything powder coated and painted. Most of it is back together (thank God). Very long day.

Anyway - the fellow that did the paintwork let the cat out of the bag to some of his customers that I am swapping out my SC engine. Now three of them want to buy it.
I was hoping to keep this motor for another project but hey, if the price is right........

Here's the skinny:
3.0L '78SC, 80K miles
No A/C
Aluminum air box w/pop off valve
SSI exchangers
Dual outlet modified hotdog muffler, very nice sound
Updated tensioners
Rebuilt by PO due to age, not mileage or wear.
Runs absolutely perfect, PPI included

Hey Brian,
Sounds like a $3500 - $4500 deal to me. I see the 2.2s for $2500 and 3.6s for about $7000. With the rebuild and ssi, it should sell fast. What are they offering you for it?

$4500 sounds like a Great deal to me, especially complete with SSIs. What are the offers?

$4500-$5000 is right for a solid 3.0
$3500-$4000 for one with any "issues"

$20 if you will sell it to me, I'll even pay shipping!

A good low k 3.0L engine (EURO) in Australia sells for $8,500 - $9,500 (AUD), so about the same price as the US going by this post.

Everyone has a different version of the term "modified".

Yes, to me a modified motor has a blower on it, but in this case it just means that aftermarket parts have been added.
"Upgraded" may be a better word to use.

The offers are from $3500 - $4000. I won't take that. The aluminum box was $600 and the SSIs were $1200 complete.
Forgot to mention turbo valve covers.

I posted this question because, to me, this is a $5000 engine. If that price is too high then I'll keep it. Porsche engines are really hard to come by outside of Chicago, St.Louis, or Indianapolis. Trying to find one later on could be very difficult. Finding one with the "upgrades" I have even harder. I purchased my 930 engine sight unseen from Chicago. I'll NEVER do that again.

Your engine is worth 5k minimum.

Personally, if I still had the stock exhaust, "I" would take the SSIs off and sell them seperately......even if the stock exhaust was not around, the motor would fetch more $$$ by selling it w/o the aftermarket parts....

I paid 4500 for a euro motor from Aase Brothers when they were still in business, it had over 100,000 miles. I considered it a bargain at the time.

I have considered replacing the SSIs and aluminum air box.
Just happen to have a set of stock pe-74 heat exchangers as well as a couple of '78 plastic air boxes.
Those two items (SSI and aluminum box) are the most important to me if I do a high horsepower (read blown) project using a 3L engine.
I'm not ready to transplant the 3.3t just yet so I have some time to mill this over. Could be that once the turbo motor is in I'll never look back. Dunno.
Thanks for all the input. Gives me a few things to think about.

Oh- someone asked me what the advantage is with the aluminum air box. Other than marginally more strength I really don't know. What I do know is that I like the build quality, looks, and built in pop-off valve. Is it worth the money? Probably not.
