915 lsd

I disassembled my stock LSD (1986 915 Trans) to replace the friction disks and am confused on how many disks should be in the diff. The parts diagram shows 2 friction disks on each side 4 in total. Mine only has one on each side two in total.
what is correct for this year. Thanks

For some reason, probably monetary in nature, Porsche reduced the # of plates in the ZF lsd from 4 to 2 I know this to be true for the non RS 964s, I believe that the trend started in the mid '80s, So your '86 appears to be data point.

Some of the 2 plate lsd's can be rebuilt as 4 plate, it depends on how much room there is in the can.

I'd give Matt Monson at Guard Transmission a call for specific advice
