Cambria's getting closer...

And while playing around with a picture of John Forcier's 911, I couldn't help but throw together a poster. No purpose to it, other than to demonstrate that I'm psyched about the first week in May.

Thumbs up May is a great month!!!!

Great job with the typed word and a photo editor. I like the poster, wish John could show up! I would let him drive Iris if he could make the show and bring beer and cigars. An Aussie R Gruppie sounds fun, need a way for Cris to send me there on a membership drive.

Go ahead, torture me more- I can't make it this year, first time I'll miss it. But, my excuse is good- we'll be having our firstborn right around then. Have fun, and watch for bike riders

Tmct - The 73E would be a great addition. Cambria Shores Inn (805) 927-8644 is the main hotel, but it's probably been booked up for months, now. Other hotels on Moonstone Drive are: Cambria Fireside Inn (927-8661), Sand Pebbles Inn (927-5600), Blue Dolphin Inn (927-3200), Cypress Cove Inn (927-2600) and the Fog Catcher Inn (927-1400). There are also a host of 'charming' (translation: overpriced and girly) Bed & Breakfasts in the area, which is the most reliable way to bribe my wife into going every year.

For anyone else with a pre-74 car who's interested in joining R Gruppe, the first step is to email Cris Huergas. He'll want to talk to you to confirm your not the wrong kind of guy for the group (if you're relentless about strict stock authenticity, don't think the cars should ever be brought above 4,000 rpm, and/or you clean your AC condensor with a Q-tip, then you might want to look elsewhere), and then he'll want you to email or mail in a picture of your car for his files and for the newsletter. His email is: gruppe911@hotmail.com

Hi Tmctguer,
If you're looking for a hotel to stay, I'll save you some time. Don't call the San Simeon Pines Seaside Resort. They're at the north end of Moonstone Drive and was the location of the first R Gruppe meet in 2000.

I made reservations last December. A month ago, the President/CEO sent me a letter identifying me as one of those in that "disruptive group" and preferred not doing business with any one associated with said car club. Because I attended the RGruppe event, they cancelled my reservations. Guilt by association. I should be a little proud of that as it sorta upholds the group's philosophy of doing things a little different. I'd like to add that everyone conducted themselves in a courteous and responsible manner (until we got up into the hills). I guess they didn't like the exhaust EFX reverberating through their pines.

What upsets me is they waited 3 months before letting me know. Hey, if you're going to do me, do it sooner than this. Don't keep me waiting. Maybe they spent that time building dossiers on every RGrupper that was there, or maybe I was the only "disruptive" one they could locate/pick on.

I don't want to get off on a rant here, but hotels are tough enough to find during the season. Locating another place only a couple of months before the event was a little too close for comfort. I've found other accommodations, but not as close as I'd like. I did send them a letter stating how arbitrary their decision was, and I'd tell at least 9 people of my dissatisfaction with them (satisfied customers usually tell only 2 people). If 9 people are listening, please spend your hard-earned money on some other pine tree.

Hmm. That makes me want to park my Flowmaster-equipped thunderbox in the parking lot at San Simeon Pines, and let it idle for a half hour or so before the sun comes up one morning.

Then again, that's probably the wrong approach. Get the whole town mad at us, and we'll be celebrating north-meets-south in Bakersfield.

Good point, Jack. As I was leaving town last year, with my Flowmaster equipped early 911, a Moonstone beach outdoor cafe full of Mother's Day brunchers all stared at me in disbelief as I went merrily "ripping" by - I think they know about us already ... Great poster, by the way!

Yeah, it will be a great time, the San Simeon Pines will end up losing out on thousands of dollars over the years and we'll still be having fun. Sorry, you won't be making it Dave - do bring your car next year, we want to see it!

C'mon Sherwood...tell the whole story.

The word in Cambria's "circle" was Sherwood was walking around on the roof so often taking pictures it disrupted the "honeymooners" day-time sessions. As matter of fact, I heard there were several fractured wood shingles because he wasn't tip-toeing.

"...Sherwood was walking around on the roof..."

Aha! So that's the mystery man I've seen in the Cambria photos. And here I thought it was a sniper from the SCWDP! -- Curt

I managed to get a room within a quarter mile of headquarters and only made my reservation 3 weeks ago. I mentioned I was with the R Gruppe thinking there could be a discount or group rate.
Her reply was,"the R what"?? I then replied, are you new to the area? She said NO, I've been here 4 years. I explained the R gruppe deal and her only reply was that many of them car club things gather up there, but never heard or the porshs car club. I then just gave her my credit card number and said thanks.

Wow, that poster looks amazing!

You guys don't know just how much I want to get over there. We've an invite to a friend's wedding in Las Vegas at the end of May and are doing our sums. The Australian dollar sucks big hairy ones! It's not so much the air fares, but the accumulative accomodation and meal costs.

I also promised my wife a new car for moving her 2000 miles from home to where we are now, and she's on me to pay up!

Some how I just don't think I've got enough credit with the Minister of Everything to get a leave pass and travel alone

Maybe next year................ Oh, I said that last year

Have fun everyone, and don't forget to take plenty of photos

Hmmm Noah...

Was that in some literary sense supposed to be amusing ?? Just in case U might get an inspiration to attend, there are wives(mothers) , pets, and children. As a matter of fact, Cris's children will attend this year. U are NO Dr. Zuess........ I believe a "better" discription would be a weekend at Porsche Disneyland. See ya there...

Hey Randy, don't you worry.....I'd treat the Slut right!

I'd probably need you to shift gears though, or I'd strap in upside down. Left Hand Drive....Hmmm

Oh and I have an excellent home brew maturing at the moment

Randy, got your message about the Seattle Historics- no replacement for Cambria, but at least its something! A bunch of family are coming out July 4th weekend, partially to see the bambino, but one of them includes my bro Gary (R Gruppe #28- kinda cool, we are exactly 200 apart- this group is growing fast!). So, maybe we can get the clan together at PRI! If not, I'm sure I'll see you at a couple auto-x's and/or DE's this summer. Ever get any of the other R Gruppester's out for driving events?

Have fun, guys- reams of pictures, please!

shades of Hollister when they came rolling in

hey Noah, I met you last year at Cambria, looking forward to seeing you again this year I hope. That was a very interesting take on the Hells Angels though I don't think we could ever be that bad, in some respects, I guess we kinda take an image of "non-conformist" group of guys who comes from different walks of life only to band together as R Gruppe and take over the town. Curtisaa, not to worry I think Noah just trying to be a little funny with his posting. Its all in good humor guys.

btw, Curtis what you're saying is that Sherwood was disrupting your weekend walking in the roof huh
okay Sherwood, you gotta be a little careful walking up there, you don't want to be too disruptive to those honey nooners... oops, I mean honey mooners.

Rick, wrong tactic. You don't ever want to mention you're with the R Gruppe and expect a discount or a gruppe rate. it'll work against you. You actually get surcharged just because you're part of this merry band of misfits we call RGruppe.

Jack, great poster. I love it. They come in all kinds of color don't they and they'll be at Cambria too. All those wild early 911 colors of the early 70's. btw, its an RHD early 911 you got in that poster. the giveaway; its that right hand Durant side mirror (unless of course the negative was reversed) but nonetheless, you got a good looking poster Jack.

RLJ, you're gonna give me a ride in the Slut, right. Specially this year when its all dialed in... I want my head to jerk back and bump that headrest on each shift... just kidding or am I oh and if I want a membership drive to the "down under", I'll go myself, thank you very much... or better yet, we'll both go.

Turbo Dave, sorry you won't make it this year but you've been there since the first one and even have a video of the last two years, you will be there in spirit and we'll be thinking of you.

fellows, everyone is fired up about this event and rightfully so, I've been fired up about doing this again since we finished the last one last year. Lets enjoy this one again and to borrow excerpts from Pat Paternie's story in Excellence where in he quoted me with this; "no egos, no judging, enjoy the cars, the people and the event"

I'll see you guys in next month, til then,

godspeed,

Cris Huergas

Yeah, Cris, it will be great and safe - the mayor will definetly not be humiliated (even if a member of the SCWDP), the only women who will be ravished will be our own, and the liquor store, well - nobody's perfect.

Looking forward to seeing you and your family on the 4th, Dave. This will be a very fun R Gruppe NW chapter gathering, along with the Zuppan Historics at PIR the following weekend and Gary Emory's camp-out on June 7-8. Some of the Gruppesters that regularly attend driving events in the NW besides yourself and me are Brad Anderson, Doug Skinner, Scott Bradely, Revis Rose - and for vintage racing there's Gordon Ledbetter, Mike Zubko, Rodd Wagner, Mike Reischel and Gary Emory. We are all drivers, not collectors, of these early cars. That's the best part of "our group". We will send along lots of photos from Cambria!

Wink Don't blame Sherwood!

Hey Curtis, if I remember correctly that big grinn on your face " ALL" weekend was not from the cars, or the Tour, in fact do you remember the cars, or Tour de Cambria last year?

None of us belive that Sherwood had anything to do with slowing down the honeymooners you were gone most of the time. Remember stud, your the one getting older!

Maybe this year you will spend some time with the boys and our toys, and let the sweetie go run with the girls.

We will have our tow rig for "Ladys Transportation" again this year so the cute ones can get out and about.
