Tons of threads on this...

  1. Most jacks are too short
  2. Dont use a single legged engine stand. they fall over
  3. Carefull using your house joists... they can break
  4. Put the adapter on the engine 1st so you only have to fit a nice 3" diameter post into 1 hole instead of 4 studs into 4 holes.
  5. There are many many ways to lift the engine to the stand. Here is mine:
I built a nice wooden part and marked it on the side where to place it on the jack such that the engine is very well balanced. Under the jack I place a few 2x12s to raise the jack the 4+ inches it is short on height. The engine is sitting on twin stacks of wood so the jack and platform fit under it easily. Then I raise the engine up to jack max. Do it slowly and balance it with one hand. Once at height, push the stand onto the 3" post and pin it in place.

Yes, its a bit scary balancing the engine, but I have had no trouble so far. The key is making sure it is well balanced and you can do this by lifting it an inch or so off the twin stacks and then trying to tip it off the jack. It is actually pretty stable if you nail the balance point.

I have also used a motorcycle jack, but it is hard to get it high enough. Some day I may break down and buy an engine hoist... but for now this method has worked well for many pulls/puts.

Engine hoist with engine stand adapter mounted to engine. Raise motor, install remaining parts of stand , lower, get to work...:)
Worked for me working alone on mine.
