Four post lift for engine drop? yes/no?

I'm seriously looking at installing a four post lift (Superlift) in the garage, primarily for storage but also for doing work on my SC and C4S. Can an engine drop be (easily) performed using a four post lift? Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Alex

Is a Superlift a good one for 911's?

Dropping engine with 4 post lift

Floorjack->scissors->twopost->fourpost lift...gotta have one of each!

Four post lift, width between runways for engine drop?

Four post lift engine drop

Whew...that's enough. My copy/paste fingers are getting tired.

After I did it on the 4 post lift,

I don't recommend it. I have now a 2 post in my detached garage, This is what I will use the next time.

the four post is nice for car storage and certain other work like changing oil, but if you want to really do all the work on your car get a 2 post. i have a freind with a 4 post and it is nice but limited on what you can do with it. i bought my 2 post to remove engine out the bottom of my firebird, but it is one of the best tools i have bought. it has paid for it's self several time over. i would not store a car on it thought. try greg smith equipmwnt.

Thanks wearl....are two post lifts typically bolted in permanently to the garage floor or can they be moved around the garage easily enough? And what about a typical power source...what are the requirements?

Yes, must be bolted. No, not moveable. Concrete must be of a certain thickness & psi.

Power source is typically 220v with a 20a ~ 30a circuit.

Might look into a scissor lift.

There is one two post lift that can be removed: MaxJax Portable Two Post Lifting System by Dannmar.

Some people like and others don't. I think the secret here is the same as any two post. Have a slab that is thick and strong enough to support the stress that a large amount of weight and strain would apply to the concrete.

Kinda what I figured rusnak....the ideal set up would be to have the scissor/midrise lift for working on the car...and a 4 poster for storage.....geez, might have to get "permission" from the other half for that!.....or do I just, somehow, sneak them both into the garage, hoping she won't notice......afterall, who would notice a 4 post hoist?!?!?

I guess you'd start the conversation by musing aloud that you need a second garage for storage.

The question I would ask is what would I be doing with the lift when I wasn't dropping my engine. If you need it for storage then the 4 post is the way to go. If you want to do maintenance then get the 2 post.

I agree with the above...mine is mostly for storage so I went with a 4-post. But I got a BendPak HD-9, this allowed it to be wide enough for an engine drop on my 914.

Just return from a buddy place to put his engine back up.

He got the 4 posts way before he got the 930.

Definitely not as easy as with a 2 post or scissor but doable.

The lift is still use for the entry angle if you got a 915.

go to greg smith equipment web site. lots of video on different lifts and how they work. LOTS of info if you don't know any thing about lifts.
