New suspension problem

OK...the fuel filter is on its way for the last problem I posted, but now I have another. I drove the car last night and all was well. Parked it in the garage. Went out this am and pulled out of the garage and heard a rubbing sound. Apparently the front suspension has "dropped" about an inch and the front wheels rub on the fenders when I turn even the slightest bit. It lowered on both sides at the same rate...not like only on one side. Like I said it was fine last night... It is undriveable now. The car was lowered to "euro ride height" prior to me buying it, so it was quite low to begin with but I always had sufficient clearance. Any ideas? Brian

If it happened only on one side I doubt that its a torsion bar but the question is what could cause this? Not much else up there that I can think of that would cause this.

Have had a torsion bar break but only on one side, not both. It dropped the corner all the way to the stop and while you could drive the car, any turning of the wheel resulted in the tire meeting the fender.

Would look here first but do not know how both could break at the same time.

It seems to be on both sides....and there was no bang or bump or unusual noises. If the torsion bars are broken.... no amount of adjustment on the adjusters would make any difference right? Also, if they are broken, can I use the sway away torsion bars that are in my 914 to swap? I have stock bars that I can put in the 914 since it has been relegated to "wife duty". Brian

If the bars are broken, you can "adjust" until you are blue in the face and it would not have anything to put torsion on.

No idea on if the bars will fit...

I don't know who started the 'myth' that 'euro' ride height is low ... must have been some of the 'mid' years guys, or maybe SC owners ... but it is CRAZY!!! Look at any press picture of a '67 911S ... be it a USA or 'euro' model ... the ride height is the same, USA or euro, and it ISN'T LOW!!!

In BA's book he writes

"In 1975 and the rest of the late 1070s and early 1980s, the 911s were raised up on their suspension for the US market to comply with the US 5 mph bumper laws"

The Bentley manual for SC's list a front ride height for US/Canadian cars at 4.25 " and for Euro cars at 3.90" (this is measured from center of torsion bar to center of wheel.

For the rears it's 1.46" for US/Canadian and .63" for Euro

Not much of a difference, but there is a difference (but not on early cars).
