Which paint To make repro fuel tank look stock?
Hi I have a 1987 Carrera, I need to replace the fuel tank with a reproduction and would like it to look stock again. I have searched this and get more confused the more I read. Repros are bare metal I believe.
Can anyone list a selection of products that would protect from rust and have close to the stock texture and color (rattle cans would be easier for me)? A DIY on this subject would be very helpful. Thanks |

So no primer?
This material is textured? Same color as stock inside the front hood? Can paint darker sealer or paint under the car to match? |

+1 on Wurth Stoneguard SKS...............It is textured and you can buy it in rattle cans. The grey color is a good factory match for the tank. the black is a good match for the undercoating.
Note: Once it sets up, the finish can be painted if required. regards, al

This was done using the Wurth product with a Shutz gun --
![]() ![]() It actually fell off the drying rack after it was dry, marred it up a touch but that stuff is tough!

First clean the tank with degreaser. Then red scotch pad the tank using, POR15 Metal ready, PickleX20 or a similar product to eliminate surface rust. Spray the tank with Either SEM Rustshield, POR15, Epoxy primer or something similar for long term protectiuon. Spray with Wurth SKS for the final texture and color to match OEM look and feel.
